[DailyTech] China Prepares to Fine Apple, Possibly Ban iPad for Trademark Abuse - Page 2

Ah the irony, China suing a company for trademark infringement, while they sell all kinds of pirated products with other companies logos all over them.

Same country, different people. I highly doubt this holding company is also manufacturing knockoff Apple clones.

Agree, I just find it curious that China is perfectly happy to pirate everyone else's stuff, but then when they think they've been shafted they get angry about it.

This is normal operating procedure for china, they do this with all companies that try to work their way into the chinese market.. They invite the company into their country, let it build factories, train workers, build up infrastructure. Then they invent some pretext to kick the company out of china and use chinese owned businesses to take over and build poorly disguised knockoffs. They've been doing this for the past 20 years and I don't really understand why all the foreign (to china) companies think they'll be the exception who won't be exploited in this way when they try to expand into the chinese market.

*some people in China

"They" seems like a rather broad generalization, is what I'm saying. This is simply a tiff between one singular company and Apple. They're completely unrelated to any of those other firms that make Apple knockoffs as far as I know, apart from being in the same country.

Although with the way the article is titled, it does make it sound like the Chinese government is suing when in fact it's just a civil suit between two private firms in a Chinese court (if I read the article correctly.)

Guys, please refrain yourself with the personal insults, and other form of name calling.

What a backwards way of doing law. So what, you sell the name iPad to some company. Then later, you realize that company was a company that can turn ideas into gold. You sue, believing that you lost a lot of money in the exchange.

That is basically saying that a company can sell a computer to another company at one price, but then later decide that the company needs to pay them because they changed their mind on the price of the computer. It is a ridiculous policy that would never be held up in a US court, regardless of the nationality of the company. It only shows you the greed of the Chinese people, who try to screw foreign companies to bring more money into your country. Yes, Apple is a major manufacturer in China, but if Apple has to pay some ridiculous licensing fee, it all goes to a Chinese based company, so basically the country wins. Also the Chinese courts might feel a little butt-hurt because Apple sells the iPad in China at a higher price than retail, and the Chinese courts want some more equality.

However, I don't know much about law. However it just seems ridiculous though from my legal knowledge that something like this could happen in the global economy as we know it.
