I guess so.  When the deal first appeared it was post-boxing day and was $200 shipped, then became $210 shipped (still a great deal)....... now it's $200 shipped.  Longest running awesome deal ever?

Oops I forgot the motherboard CPU combo, that makes it wayyyyyy cheaper!

Ok new specs list:

http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=65968&vpn=1055T%20%26%20M5A97&manufacture=Bundle%20Deals&promoid=1012 1055T + ASUS M5A97 970A - $210

Samsung MV-3V4G3D/US Desktop Memory Kit - 8GB - $40

NZXT Source - $40

Corsair CX500 V2 - $60

http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-Caviar-Cache-Desktop/dp/B00461G3MS $87

Total: $437!

If this doesn't encourage him to buy I don't know what will... he's sitting on the fence debating whether the P4 can live for a few more years and chug along doing video encoding or if this is worth it doh.gif

Edit: Nevermind looks solid.

cx 600 is cheaper with promo and MIR

You might consider this bronze class Fuly modular PSU for the same $ AMIR

You might want to look at the AMD FX combo deals at Micro Center since that appears to be an option for you:

Bumpity bump bump.

My stepfather set his budget at $500 w/o an OS and informed me when I was about to buy the 1055T bundle... he needs a Firewire port. Which the M5A97 970+ does not have.

So I need a build that is as close to $500 as possible with Firewire. I'll be going back through the builds above to see if I can piece something together smile.gif

**Edit:

Looking at the MIcro Center bundles I'm thinking an FX-8120 + ASRock 970 Extreme4 Socket AM3+ 970 for ~$200 at Micro Center. He does video editing so those 8 cores might get some use... now I'll need a PSU capable of powering that at stock speeds and the GTX 460. Is 500W still going to be ok?

This will not be overclocked except to the extent that stock volts can take it.

A PCI or PCI-E card supplying firewire can be bought.  I'm pretty sure the 1055T + M5A97 combo has expired, but there IS a new NCIX sale tonight....
EDIT: I have good reason to believe that those Microcenter bundles are a better deal.  The FX-8120 should provide better video editing performance.  A QUALITY 500W will do it, but choose that and not just any 500W.  Good, fast RAM (i.e. extra bandwidth/lower latency) and lots of RAM (8GB is ideal for editing HD 1080p video) is also ideal for HD video editing processes (personal experience), where several files may need to be modified, moved, copied, read and written to in RAM at once, and real-time playback is also ideal.  The GTX 460 will help if the program you use makes use of GPU acceleration (i.e. Adobe Premiere, Sony Vegas 11).

Thanks! thumb.gif

The NCIX M5A97 + 1055T deal is actually still valid... it's in my cart as valid anyways...

Will the Corsair CX500 V2 be adequate for the build? Also would it be better for tighter timing DDR3-1600 or faster DDR3-1866 in relation to the FX-8120? I don't know how much the new FX chips take advantage of memory speed but I'm looking forward to checking out the new architecture for myself smile.gif
