Memory question

Thread Starter
My mobo is in my sig. Currently, I have 2x 512mb Corsair XMS pc3200 memory in two of my four ram slots in my motherboard. Howeverm I have some Kingston ValueRAM which is pc2100 and 1GB in size. I would like to have 2GB of ram, so I am considering putting this in. Is this a good idea? Is it wise to mix these speeds?

No thats not wise unless you dont mind your ram running at pc2100 speeds.

Ummm like above..you are going to take a big performance cut if you get it all to run.
Stay with the 2 modules you have.

Also you wouldn't run at dual channel.
plus 2 gb's doesn't help all that most not less you do alot of mulitmedia and work with big files.

What revision is your cpu? E4 or E6? If it is E6 you can add an additional 2x512MB kit and run at PC3200. If it is the E4 revision you will likely install a 2x512MB kit and it will run at PC2700 by default. With the E4 revision when more then 2 memory dimms are full it defaults to PC2700. If you want to maintain the same level of performance is to get a PC3200 kit if you have the E6 revision or buy a 2x1GB kit if you have the E4 revision. If you throw that PC2100 stick in it will default all your memory to PC2100 and even if you had a total of 2GB's of memory I bet it would not perform as good as 1GB of PC3200 memory in editing or playing BF2. Guess you can try it out and see what you think, that is the only real way to find out.
