Just got the 2600k quick overclock question

I just got a good deal on an unlocked 2600k ($299) so I went for it. I've only overclocked AMD but I'm really good and know what I'm doing. My question is how different is overclocking Intel to AMD or is it the same. I heard you just bumb up the Mutli and CPU volts for the 2600k and leave FSB alone. Or do I just do like AMD with a balance of FSB, Multi, voltages. I'm still waiting for my water loop kit to arrive before to do the upgrade and havent had a change to look at the BIOS or settings yet.

Sweet, sounds even easier. Hope my waterloop cools the cpu enough to get 4.8-5.0 GHz. What do you think?

I have no doubt in my mind that if properly setup an RX240 kit will keep your 2600k at decent temps.

However, clocking a 2600k that high for 24/7 use isn't always common. It depends on your chip, you could max out at 5.1Ghz 24/7, or you could max at out at 4.7Ghz. redface.gif

I think you will find that you can play with a lot more than just vcore and mulitplier. I'd track down some oc guides using your mobo.
I recommend you run your ram on an xmp profile. Also I have to use a wired mouse to move around in the bios - my wireless one drifts to the right and can be used.

Like that mobo you bought. If it was out when I bought my gear - that is the one I would have bought.

Thx, I try some guides. This is my first intel since I was 18 and on a pentium. Since then I aways had AMD have done little reading on Intel except for some benchs. So im gonna need to catch up. For example I had no idea Ivy was on 1155 and thought 2100.

Ok, I got the system upgraded (Man I love it that Intel doesnt use pins on the CPU, so nice) and thankfully my last AMD MOBO was an Asus with the new Bios. So theres some differences I noticed, like the FSB is much lower on intel,the multi is doubled then AMD is, and the voltages are slightly lower. So this is going to be fun. My first crack at this was Basic OC, I uped the FSB to 105, 42 on the multi, had to increase my ram volts to 1.55 (From 1.5, which what my ram is rated) and the Cpu volts up to 1.37. and got a quick 4.3 GHz easy.

I'll run some stable tests, and go from there. But this is my first crack at it.

Welcome to back to Intel...I too just made the switch after only a month on AMD. Got my i5 overclocked to 5ghz. with just a multi and voltage change

Just a tip for you, keep the BCLK at 100 (default) and increase the multiplier to 45, I guarantee you will be hitting 4.5ghz at the same voltage (or less even). Also check if you need to update the MB bios and compare LLC levels with others to ensure your not over volting at load etc
