1TB Samsung spinpoint F3 and slow windows boot help plz - Page 3

Well it doesnt mean that all those drives are crap. Cause its like a grocery store getting a crate full of apples and they sent it to you in the mail, and yet it looked good from the outside it tasted like poo when you ate it. Doesnt mean you the store sucks its just luck of the draw out of all the possible bad apples.

i rang the place i got it and told them, they said i had to send a email and it was up to the manager if i get a replacement coz it passed all the tests i ran on it. i took it out to see it i had mounted it wrong and when i put it back on windows would not boot? it said to put a boot device in and restart? so don`t know what the hell is going on ?

i formatted the drive and put my old one back in. the place i got it said i could send it back for a replacement as long as in its as new condition. i don`t know what hard drive to get now?

can anyone tell me if the 2Tb Hitachi Deskstar 7200RPM 64Mb is any good please and if its quiet?

oh and btw no high pitch noise is coimg from my pc now lol

I would get a replacement for the F3, your not going to beat its performance with another HDD model. It is likely that you simply got an odd one. My F3 is silent. If you are still concerned, get a refund and get an F3 from another distributor.

bcause the black one is much too noisey for me, but im not sure of the noise it will be?

Really? My old WD Blue would post in 36 secs. That is not normal unless he has a ton of services loading at start.

Oh man markshim I read the thread and couldn't help but chuckle. It sounds like you had a real adventure with this hard drive! To answer your question blues are pretty good drives. I have a WD black and it can be a bit noisy sometimes. However as far as HDDs go; I would put the spinpoints at number 1.

Yes, it would post in 36 secs, what about the actual booting/loading of Windows?

one more question b4 i shut up lol.

b4 i install windows 7 do i need to change the IDE to AHCI ? will that make the drive run ok and will my wd green storeage drive still run ok if i change these settings?

Yes enable ahci. Follow my install guide. And your storage drive will. Be fine.

omg thank you so much for the windows 7 install guide, most of all for the part about disconnecting my other hard drive while i install windows 7. that what happened to me and windows 7 all of a sudden wouldn`t boot up lol. i don`t uderstand it all, the bit about installing windows 7. i have always just booted to the windows 7 cd and installed form there. i don`t use Hibernation so i will delete that as well.
System Protection i will just shrink with the slider as i think i need the added System Protection knowing me lol. Turn Off/Shrink Page file i don`t know what that is so i will just leave it. as for installing the drivers i have always let windows update run first to get SP1 on the i install the drivers, but if its better to install them first i will. then i install my Avira anti virus.

i can`t do anything till my hard drive get here next week, but thank you anyways biggrin.gif
