Well done, OP. Well done, indeed. Like narmour said, make a thread in the Intel Section with your intentions (gaming, video encoding, folding, etc.) and budget and we'll have something badass for you within the hour. You can order the stuff tonight and get your parts by Saturday. If you have questions or any concerns building it, post them in that same thread. Remember to look at some videos on youtube about building a computer. Newegg's video is informative for newcomers. The community will help you and you'll have a DAMN good weekend. thumb.gif

See everyone who was saying "don't tell him how to spend his money." In this case your going to end up with a kick ass gaming rig for way less.

Personally I would start with a 2700k, 7970, 120gb ssd, 1tb storage drive, Fractal Define R3 Case, any quality 650w to 800w psu, Z68 or P67 motherboard and you will be set.

As far as you wanting to get the big 6 core cpu, its a nice cpu but it won't make any difference in gaming for a long time. By the time games get far enough to use 12 threads you will be able to buy CPU's twice as powerful for half as much.

Make a new thread for specific parts and I'm sure you will get lots of help.

EDIT: Oh and once you get your rig worked out, check out the keyboard section and read up on mechanical keyboards. Your going to want to get one of those because their awesome.

He wants to keep the cpu for 4ish years, Games will eventually use more cores so he might as well get a more powerful cpu.

Its a good thing I bought my Q6600 seeing as how most games use 4 cores now right? A 2600k is totally not any better than my Q6600. /sarcasum

Games will eventually use more than 4 cores, but a 2600k or a 2700k has 8 threads. That's more than enough to future-proof him for 5 years, look how long it took for games to start using more than a dual core. You really think games are going to be using 12 threads in 4 years?

This.

4 cores 8 thread will do well for gaming for a good while methinks. Especially with Sandy IPC.
