Where did you read that? PMMA has 50% more density than MDF and the resonant frequency is around 50KHz, well outside of audibility.

Those things have a volume of 6,084in³, you could fit over 60 MM-1s in there, also I'm not entirely certain you can find space for those speakers on a desk, and at 16 inches wide apiece, two of them side by side would require three feet of horizontal space...

Like I said, I couldn't even begin to think where I found that read.

As for desk space, I have a huge desk. I would guess someone dropping 800 dollars on a speaker system could also afford a larger desk? Idk.

He says he wants asthetics, those Behringers are probably the last thing I would call decor friendly. I've got plenty of space too but the last thing I would do is put a pair of 30inch tall floorstanding PA speakers on my desk.

As far ask desk, who knows? Maybe he doesn't have the floor space? $800 budget is nothing if you are living in a metropolitan area when rent is high. When I was in NY years back I had 2 roommates and I was still paying $3,000 a month in rent in a crappy cramped room and sharing a bathroom. Could I have found a bigger place? Sure, if I wanted to spend 5 grand a month...

Well...IMO, you didn't look that well for a place to live...for 3 grand you could have gotten a pretty big place especially if you had room mates, but I digress.

Perhaps those speakers are a bit large, but he should definitely look at the Behringer lineup.

If he was going to look at any Behringers it wouldn't be those lol......

Maybe the B1030A active monitors, but not those.

I've recently purchased the bigger 8 inch woofer version of these Pioneer S-DJ05s:

469

700

Accurate sound reproduction, eye catching and a wired remote that has:

-A power button
-Mute button
-The ability to activate/deactivate the highs/lows eq knobs on the back of the monitors
-The ability to switch between the four inputs they have. Good for connecting consoles/phones/mp3 players etc.

The downsides (according to your preferences) are that they require a kettle lead each as they're active monitors and have two amplifiers built in to each of them (one for the tweeter and one for the woofer). But if you have adequate cable management you should be okay.

Just a suggestion/alternative route to consider.

When I am working 70-80 hour weeks and have to be there at 4...I prefer to wake up, and be able walk to work and do so very quickly.

Thread Starter
I really appreciate all the input,
the Behringer's may be good, but it doesn't really fit the decor I was hoping for.
The Pioneers and Emotiva also seem quite nice, again though the sizing and decor are killing it.
Most speakers are so outlandish/colorful/lit up.

I am trying to part from that.

Still for some reason I am appreciating the B&W
and also some of the SWAN's systems.
