EVGA rma'ing my 8800gt with gts 450

I just rma'd my 8800gt SC edition to evga since it carries lifetime warranty. I check the part out number which is for GTS 450.

Technically it is supposed to be similar or better performing card. But the GTS 450 uses 128bit memory interface where as the 8800gt was a 256bit interface. Another thing is that I had 8800gt in sli with another 8800gt from xfx.

I am really not sure, if I should ask them for 8800gt back so I can sli it. Or you guys think its a better upgrade over the 8800gt with double the ram. And then use my other 8800t as spare or physx ?

My 8800gt being replaced by this GTS 450

GTS 450 is a litte faster than a 8800GT. 128-bit bus isn't that big of an issue, the GTS 450 memory runs at almost twice the speed.

If you sold that 8800GT at a low enough price, I'd buy it smile.gif

Well first off, the gts 450 has192 cores, while the 8800 only has 112, so the 450 will be a much better performer, also the gts 450 has the newer shader model, ect....

Id have to say that you should just be happy they sent you a pretty big upgrade over 1 card, you could always use your other 8800 as a physx card lol tongue.gif

Why did you RMA it if you're willing to take it back from them so you can put it back into the system with your other 8800GT?

So you think a single GTS 450 is better than 8800gt SLI ? or similar ?

I would explain the situation for them, and if you really want to SLI, ask if they cant atleast look for a 8800GT wink.gif

If you want to go back to the 8800 email me, Matth@evga.com, and I can see if we have any available. Personally I would keep the 450, sell the 8800 (or use for physx) and put the funds towards another 450.

No. Those cards are just about on par with each other. It's not all about the shader cores, the 8800GT has more texture units.

No I mean I can wait till 8800gt becomes available. I rma'd it because it was heating way too much and causing system crashes. and random shut offs. I

I am really unsure on how well the GTS 450 performs. But I am more inclined on keeping the card. Since its a replacement for my 8800gt which had limited lifetime warranty, would it carry over to this card. I may look for another gts 450 if I can find it for cheap to sli.
