Building my first PC - Page 5

If your going to send it back, i would put it on another card and build it this weekend, lol. All the builds people have provided would play any game better than the originally ordered pc, and you would have no problem upgrading anything on it when you feel said part is not up to par. Either way you will not regret building your pc.

With a budget like that I would suggest that you wait for Nvidia's new 6xx series.

Trust me, the IBP build is awful compared to what you can put together on your own. You'd be able to put together a rig that outperforms it in gaming for half the price.
Building a computer is even easier than building a model plane, but don't go diving into water cooling before you've mastered the basics. I'd recommend watching some YouTube tutorials before you start building.

By the way, I don't think anything you can buy is going to last you 10 years. For example, if you look at equipment that was top of the line ten years ago, it is now junk gaming-wise. 5 years should not be an issue, although it might be a bit of a stretch on the GPU side, depending on what you end up getting.

Exactly. OP, don't expect your hardware to be lasting you ten years. It may actually live to ten years, but at the rate that computer technology is evolving right now, it'll be WAY obsolete in that time. Like HothBase here said, ten years ago we had Pentium 4s and ... whatever the AMD equivalent was... and both are NOTHING compared to what's out today. It'll be the same ten years from now. thumb.gif

Asus Maximus IV Gene Z
Intel I7 2700k
AMD 7970 GPU
4x4GB G.Skill RipjawX
Western Digital 1TB Drive
Corsair Force GT 120gb
Samsung Blu-ray Drive
Corsair H80 CPU cooler
2x Gentle Typhoon AP-15's 120mm
Corsair HX (or AX) 850 PSU

As for case, I love the NZXT Phantom, Corsair 500r, Cooler Master HAF X (although it is dated now and lacks fresh features), Silverstone Fortress 2 FT02B. Great cases I've used anyway (own or to build on).

Future upgrades would be Ivy Bridge and a second 7970 GPU.

Motherboard: ASUS P8Z68-V Pro GEN3 Z68 LGA1155 = 209.99
GPU: MSI Radeon HD 7970 925MHZ 3GB 5.5GHZ = 579.99 (seriously don't get the 580 over this)
CPU: Intel Core i7 2700K = 319.99
CPU Cooling: Noctua NH-U12P SE2 LGA1155 = 79.99 or Corsair Cooling Hydro Series H80 = 89.99
Power Supply: Antec High Current Gamer 750W = 99.99 (before 20$ MIR)
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL 8GB = 50$
SSD: Mushkin Chronos 120GB 2.5IN SATA3 Sandforce = 154.99
HDD Storage Drive: Western Digital 2TB Caviar Green SATA3 = 129.99
DVD Drive: Samsung SH-222AL 22X DVD Writer = 18.99
Monitor: Samsung S27A350H 27IN Widescreen LCD Monitor LED Backlit 1920X1080 2MS = 289.99

Case Options:
Corsair Obsidian Series 650D = 159.99
Fractal Design Define R3 Black = 109.99
Corsair Carbide Series 400R Mid-Tower Case = 99.99

Total should come up to around 2200$ before tax and shipping, with the Corsair Obsidian.

Of course there are other cases, those are just some of my recommendations. I love my Fractal Define R3 but the Obsidian is also a really good case. Also personally I think 3D is a huge gimmick, which is why I included a large 27 inch monitor instead of a smaller overpriced 120HZ one.

He can save $100 by switching to the i5-2500k. He won't need the hyperthreading even in 5 years. Also, the Noctua DH-14 is better than a custom loop. He also doesn't need quad channel ram.. 2x4gb ram is more of use.
