New rig build i5 2400 vs amd phenom II x6 1100t

Thread Starter
Hi
Ok so im building a new rig and so im deciding between one the i5s like the 2400 or 2400s or maybe even the 2500 because it has a 15 off at newegg and the amd phenom 1100t. I am going to be doing medium gaming like NFS games including the run and minecraft all at 1080p, i would like relativity high FPS, i also will be doing some video and audio editing and all the stuff that goes with that, along with tuns of stuff with burning iso's and extracting them. i will be using a radeon 6850 as my graphics card. So i am wondering what CPU would suite me best? and NO i am not going to spend 300 on a stupid i7.

Thanks

Man you must get the i5 2500k! It is way better than the X6 1100t and better than the 2400/S.

I would get this board: ASrock Z68 Extreme 3 Gen3.

So what is your budget for this update?

ok so even for video encoding and converting? because i have heard that more cores are better? and that motherboard looks nice but its doesnt have any usb 3.0 headers and doesnt have a tun of sata 6gbs. i am looking to stay below 400 or so on this upgrade but i only have to get a cpu ram and motherboard.

thanks
The difference is minimal.

So you are going to do video encoding. How many HDD/SSD are you going to use?

Might get something like this:
i5 2500k - $230
ASUS P8P67 PRO - $180
8GB RAM.

You are going to go a little over your budget. Maybe a cheaper motherboard.

This,

you want a 2500k, it rapes everything! Even so "More cores are better" this is still better then the 1090t in everything apart from maybe the most threaded of apps.. The i7 wins that! wink.gif
You will want a Hyper 212+ also! To keep that thing cool at 4Ghz+

I take it you will overclock right? If you choose not to overclock get Xeon E3-1230/1235, cheaper version of i7-2600.

hes not saying buy a real i7, hes saying there is a rebranded i7 for the price of an i5 as an xeon server cpu, but you will have to give up ocing. if your willing to give up oc, the i7/xeon has more threaded ability then the i5. if you do want to oc only have $180 and want threaded ability then i would recommend to you the fx-8120. while the 8150 is overpriced, the 8120 is a decent competitor to the i5 if overclocked.
