Low IBT results on i7 2600k 4.2ghz

Thread Starter
I just got my i7 2600k today, did a simple oc to 4.2, stock voltage.

Ran Intel burn test and I get about 45 - 50 gflops, fresh install.

My i5 760 oc'd to 4.2 got 55 - 57 gflops on a few month old install. What gives?

edit: HT is on, but I thought it would at least be in the high end of 80 to 90 from what I have seen :S

AVX on your machine isn't enabled. It basically doubles the Gflops and adds a butt load of heat. So beware of your temperatures!

You need to have a) Windows 7 Service Pack 1 installed to get AVX working b) You need IBT 2.51 OR newer to have AVX enabled. (2.53 is the newest)

Here are link to 2.53 version of IBT

http://majorgeeks.com/IntelBurnTest_d5987.html

And Service Pack 1 to Windows 7

Thank you, i'l get to installing that right away.

Does it just double the gflops in IBT or does it overall increase the performance by 2? That would be sweet if its the second one.

I don't know for sure but afaik, it almost doubles it. See for yourself when you have the requirements to have AVX enabled.

Just did that and I now get 78Gflops. Seems better, thanks!

Although I do have another unrelated question if your up to it!

it seems my CPU is being throttled when it reaches close to 60c. In the bios I turned off anything to do with it, turned off all the c states and spread spectrum. Surly the chip can go past 60c? :S

What do you use for temperature monitoring? Newest real temp is recommended but HWmonitor and core temp can be used though.

I do not think your processor is throttling because of temperature. But instead that sounds like your processor is hitting it's head against the power limits. Since as far as I know, these sandy's only start thermal throttling when going above 90*C.

I don't know what your motherboard is but the settings can be found in the bios.

Just raise them to say long 200w short 250w 32 seconds <- You know what these mean when you find the setting inside bios.

I figured it out after. i found a screenshot of a 2500k and used his settings. works a treat now at 4.6ghz biggrin.gif

It was indeed the power settings for turbo causing the issue
