Universal GPU block for crossfire/SLI. Opinions needed

Thread Starter
So I have been toying with the idea of water cooling my 4890's. Going with fulcover blocks does not seem very attractive as there is no telling when I might upgrade my GPU's. So I'm looking for a long term investment that can be hopefully used on many card's for years to come.

Side note: I use 1/2 barbs in my system.

At this moment I'm most interested in:

Swiftech MCW82
176

I like this because it has side to side design (in and out does not mater) and could potentially be connected strait down using some extenders and 90° angled adaptor's or a 180° variable connector
656565
400

The thing I don't like about the MCW82 is that it relies on precise brackets for compatibility AI you need to buy a new bracket if the hole spacing a is different on the next card you own.

XSPC Rasa GPU & EK-VGA Superme HF

140140

Thees blocks are pretty similar. By the looks of it the rasa might have a bit more flexible mounting system. Both of thees have a specific in & out port so the connection needs to be diagonal.
400
I think you might get some kind of hard line going using some double angle connectors and a double nipple.
140140

EK-VGA Supreme HF Bridge Edition
140
Now this is probably the best looking option as it can be copuled with a EK-FC Bridge.
140225
The bridge edition blocks and a bridge would be the most expensive option but that is not my main concern. What I'm more worried about is whether or not bridge edition block would actually clear the unisink on my current cards. That and the fact that the bridge cant be reused if I get a motherboard with different PCI-e spacing.

So some input on thees options would be greatly appreciated. If you have pics of systems running two universal GPU blocks please post them as it would be nice to see what kind of solutions other people have come up with.

Take a read here. Should give you some good info.

Edit: The Swiftech MCW82 is like the 62 less restriction but better temps.

Thanks. I have read some reviews on GPU block and so I do have some sense of the pros and cons between them. What I'm really trying to figure out here is how to get them connected in to SLI/crossfire.

Ic now.re-read it.

I would go with the Swiftech 82 and your option:

I like this because it has side to side design (in and out does not mater) and could potentially be connected strait down using some extenders and 90° angled adaptor's or a 180° variable connector

This way it is re-usable in the future and Swiftech provides mounting plates for different cards. As for the unisink clearance you are going to have to link us to the exact card you have.

EDIT:

Also take a look here:

http://www.coolingconfigurator.com/

Pick the right card you have and see what they say about clearance.

I think the "normal" blocks will clear the unsink. Its the Bridge Edition block that I'm not so sure of. This is an image of an 4870 but my card's unisinks are very similar thou I do plan on removing the fans as it just looks to ugly to leave them on.

If you want the Universal Bridge blocks(EK) they have them at Performance-PCs.com . Currently out of stock on the Nickel version but it's not like you're gonna see that anyway. wink.gif

Oh yes, much cheaper to Parralel them too. smile.gif

Thanks. That problem actually solved it self as aquatuning got some more into there stock today smile.gif I haven't yet placed the order as I'm still running some numbers trying to pinch pennies but as the blocks and bridge will cost around 120€ the difference to getting the normal versions and a some extenders and angle connectors shrinks the difference quite a bit.

Still 120€ is a lot of money considering I only payed 150€ for my current loop rolleyes.gif

I concluded that the EK-VGA Supreme HF Bridge Edition and the dual bridge was the best option but I never placed the order for the parts as I literally need to have my computer on 24/7 to finish up my school work.

The EK-VGA Supreme HF Bridge Edition will work just as well for 4 GPU's as 2 the only difference is that you will use the parallel quad bridge.
400

Note the word parallel. The EK-VGA universal blocks will not work properly with a serial bridge.
Also the EK-VGA do not come with passive heat sinks just the core block and mount. I was going to use the standard coolers uni-sink to cool my cards. Depending on the design of your cards you could potentially do the same. The other options are to get stick-on heat sinks (low profile vram sinks will fit under the blocks extension) and there are some after market uni-sinks (like thous that are made by Swiftech) but thous would probably need some light modding to fit.

Hope I could help with your project and good luck.
