Or people just have money from xmas and tax refunds.

But simply put they're fast affordable chips (got mine from MC for $229.00 AC).

Ditto. Was going for 2500k, but at $229 I had to grab the 2600k. Love Micro Center. Just wish that we also had a Fry's in the DC area.

A lot of good reasons in this thread. Many of which apply to me. Im kinda surprised though, I thought the 2550k, etc would be becoming more popular. Apparently many people buying them are uniformed since ivy bridge is so close...

I almost bought a 2500k, but the 2600k looked me in the eyes and said "Video editing." I couldn't resist.

Anyway within the last week they re-stocked with 10+ and sold out twice ! you could literally watch them fly out the door on line. Even today they had 10+ this morning so I figured I had time to grab one tonight. Well I got one and they only had three left.
Is there some reason for the sudden upsurge in 2500k/2600k sales ? I notice Newegg is frequently out of stock lately also.

They are intels mainstream processors and like everyone else said price/performance.

good price for performance ratio, pretty cheap nowadays and Ivy bridge won't *really* give much CPU bonus over Sandy since it's only the tock, but it's still the next newest thing, so there will be an early adopter's fee if/when it comes out in Q2
post #20 of 35
If I had a microcenter I would've gotten one from there as well. I couldn't get on the NCIX deal $199 so I had to buy it from newegg at full price :/ but its alright. My friend got in on the Christmas deal at $159 microcenter, that was a good deal and this processor is fast/runs cool and ocs nicely.
