Thanks for the link. The more I read the more I think the Big Kepler (GK110) is a better fit for this rig. The primary use for this rig is running BOINC applications (SETI@home, etc..)

I already have three GTX 570 Superclock cards from EVGA. One is installed in this rig. I am leaning towards buying another GTX570 Superclock for this rig. This will give me a matching set of four that can be consolidated into a single rig in the future. Then I would just wait for the Big Kepler cards to arrive.

I have read they should arrive in Aug-2012. But, the EVGA "Big Kepler" (GK110) Classified Hydro Copper version will probably not be available until Oct-Nov-2012.

In the mean time, I will work on the infrastructure in this rig to be ready to accept four high power GPU cards.

Cheers,

Sure. You have to solder the wires though.

These fans are the 3-wire type with +12V, GND, and RPM signal. You connect the +12V wires together and connect them to a single pin in the 3-pin fan connector. Then you connect the GND wires together and connect them to a single pin in the 3-pin fan connector. Then you pick one fan to use the RPM wire from and connect that to the last pin in the 3-pin fan connector. So, you also need to crimp these pins.

You can get the pins and connectors from several of the common web-sites like FrozenCPU.com. I reccommand the crimping tool from mdpc.com.

Cheers,

Well, I am leaving the i7-3930K CPU at 4.6GHz at 1.370V for now and I've been overclocking the GPU. I have an EVGA GTX570 SuperClock that I have added the EVGA Hydro Copper 2 waterblock to.

Here is the sequence of sucessful OC runs. There were several failed attempts in between these that required voltage bumps in order to work.

GPU EVGA GTX570 Superclock (on Water) 3DMarlk11 Heaven BenchMark
Core Clk Mem Clk VDD P_Score Score FPS GPU Tempature
797 1950 1.013 6473

875 1950 1.088 6944 2142 85.0 36
885 1950 1.088 7041 2170 86.1 36
890 1950 1.088 7062 2183 86.7 37
895 1950 1.088 7107 2185 86.7 36
900 1950 1.100 7160 2204 87.5 37

I only ran one pass of each benchmark, so I guess I need to let it run many times. But, I left the GPU at 900MHz at 1.1V and ran BOINC over night with no problems. I have not tried anything above 900MHz yet, so I may still have some headroom left.

I love getting "Free" performance out of the CPU and GPU by overclocking. But wait!  I spent all those $ on a huge case, bought 4 huge radiators, pumps, fittings, and 32 fans.  Maybe it wasn't free after all....

Cheers,

Haha too true

I could get a new 680 on air for the price of a 2nd hand 580 3gb classy with waterblock lol. It used to make more sense when the difference in price meant it was better for performance to go for the cheaper part with watercooling.

I made a few more runs at overclocking the single GPU and I got the EVGA GTX570 Superclock up to 910MHz GPU and 2000MHz Memory. So here is the final set of benchmark runs:

That would suck royally is you had to replace a squeaking fan after all that soldering!

Test all the fans BEFORE soldering them together.

Well, it's time for a small update. I bought another EVGA GTX570 Superclock card. So, I installed it and ran it on air for a few days just to verify it works. Then the EVGA Hydro Copper water block for it arrived.

Here is a photo of it installed. I love the removable MB tray and those quick disconnects.

Here is a close-up of the Danger Den CrossSLI Fittings/Spacers:

After leak testing for a bit, I ran some benchmarks in SLI mode.
