Btw that is a great build. Can't wait to see the grand finale.

This is my first watercooled build, so I have not experienced the rad cleaning fun yet. Give me a few more months to see if there is a dust issue.

BTW my RIVE MB died. It was working great one night and then dead the next morning. I measured 0V on the Vcore test point and 12V on the 8-pin CPU connector. So, the VRMs have failed. I have an RMA pending with ASUS.

So, I now have the "opportunity" to do some mods and cable management work while I wait for the replacement. Pictures will follow....

Cheers,

Dude, sorry for your mobo. Asus's QC seems to have taken a blow, I've seen a lot asus rma's in the lastfew months at work, and around the forums.

Anyways I think you should seriously consider getting some sort of dust filters. Even the home made will work .They'll be hidden inside the top and bottom compartment so they won't mess up the overall look of the build. When the rad gets clogged, temps go up ,no airflow, noise, etc. If you're short on money do it yourself and it will do the job just fine.

Nice log. Looking to do an STH10 sometime soon, it was helpful to see the pictures to get an idea of what I'll be needing smile.gif

I have a newb question: with your top radiators as they are, do you not have any issue with gravity draining the one radiator when the system is turned off? I would think you would want to send the top radiator barb down to the reservoir instead of the bottom.

Also, I'm curious why you chose to run the CPU and quad GPU through the same loop. Wouldn't your GPU temps be better if they were in their own loop both from no CPU heat and from higher flow rate due to no CPU/Mobo water block restriction?

As to the second question having a separate loop for the CPU doesn't offer much in the way of noticeably better temps, also the GPUs are a lot less sensitive to water temperatures changes, it's the CPU that is sensitive to water temperature changes.

+1 as long as flow is not severely changed the increased cooling due to extra rads will benefit you more. Usually you don't max out your cpu and gpus at the same time which means there is more available heat dump capacity for each when they do get stressed. Very few people have a sufficiently large amount of rads where multiple loops with higher flows become minutely better.

1) No issue with draining while off. There are two rads in the top and two in the bottom. One port from one of the top rads does feed into the reservoir.

2) My research on OCN and other forums indicates that there is very little tempature difference throughout any loop, big or small. So, my thinking was that one loop would provide the max cooling to whatever component needed it. And when a different component needed the max cooling, based on different usage scenarios, it automatically got it.

Cheers,

Thread Starter

I got my replacement RIVE from ASUS and tested it with an inexpensive GTX520 GPU and the only CPU I have and all is good now.

After removing the VRM waterbolck on the failed MB I saw a tiny fried part. I'll post a photo soon, but my close-up (macro) photography skills need a lot of work.

I am still running the new MB at stock speeds for now but the VRMs on the new MB feels much cooler. The caps near the VRMs on the old MB felt very warm to the touch. The new ones do not, but it is at stock speed right now.  I have both watercooled GTX570s back in the new home now.

I intend to OC the new MB this weekend. Hopefully I'll get at least the 4.6 GHz I got on the old MB. I know my CPU will work at 4.6 GHz.

Cheers,
