what speed RAM for i3 build

Thread Starter
if I stick an i3-2100 on this mobo

ASRock Z68M/USBH3 LGA1155

What RAM speed should I get? is say this sufficient? does it matter if I'm not aiming for gaming or benchmarks i.e. I don't care if its 0.5% slower

Corsair CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 4GB (2x XMS3 2GB) PC-12800

No overclocking (media centre build) just want bang for buck, i3 plenty fast enough

1333 would be just fine, even 1066 wouldn't be bad in a media/HTPC build.

If you NEVER plan on changing the CPU to a 2500k or 2600k, and you NEVER plan on overclocking, gaming, or benching.....

Than anything will work.

I'd shoot for these though personally: biggrin.gif

My favorite RAM to recommend. They should tighten down to 7-8-7 at 1600, or overclock to 2133 or higher easily with some more voltage (they take up to 1.65v safely supposedly).

just get a 1333 4GB kit, most manufactures would be fine and you dont need to get anything with fancy heat spreaders for a simple media center thumb.gif

Wouldn't a H series chipset be cheaper ?

For the ram, you can pretty much get the cheapest 4GB kit or 8GB kit depending your budget (kind of useless to be honest) from your company of choice.

This would definitely work just fine. My media center machines have 4GB of DDR2-667 in them, and I have no issues at all with anything. RAM speed won't honestly make any difference on a media center only build.

ok cheers well that RAM I posted is 29 bucks aussie so going to go for it.

budget is not a huge issue so I thought I'd just pick up a better mobo. Its already a cheapie (under a hundred bucks). Whole upgrade 'kit' clocks in under 250 bucks aussie which in my mind is a steal.
