save yourself some money and sign up for that.

Mech keyboards aren't for everyone, believe me. I too was in this scenario once after listening to countless hype and praise, but was sorely disappointed and went through about two of them before giving up (Ducky and Das). My experience can be summed up as loud and clunky. I guess I will always be a scissor-switch fan.

simple.

learn not to bottom out.

but you're completely right, mechanical keyboards are not for everybody.

although the mechanical keyboards make more noise than a standard dome keyboard... i think they are alot of fun lol. I find the sound and feeling to be very satisfying although I despise the sound that the blue switches make... some people love it though.

Go to best buy and touch a blackwidow tongue.gif then you can see/hear what the blue switches sound like (but remember they will sound louder at home since best buy is already very loud). As far as trying black switches I think fry's usually carries a steelseries board or something. That can get you started on at least trying 2 switches. But in the end I dont think you can go wrong with the brown switch since its great for both typing and gaming. Nice thing about mechanical keyboards is they retain their value fairly well if cared for properly so you could always sell it down the road if you want to try something new.

i bought a ducky shine with brown switches without trying the different switches before hand.

people say they are a good middle ground, but i don't really know because i haven't tested the other switches to confirm it. but i can say they feel a better than rubber domes. if you want to spend money for a mechanical keyboard, i can't not say the ducky shine is a good one to get (double negatives for the win!).

a problem with browns i have noticed is that if you miss a key and press two at once, it is easy to mess up your typing with errors, because the weak spring lets you press multiple keys with ease. but i guess that's what the backspace key is for.

when i first got my ducky, it felt interesting. not better than rubebr dome, not worse, but interesting. over the last few weeks i kind of mellowed into it, and suddenly realized how crappy rubber domes now feel, and how good the browns feel in comparison.

the sound of bottoming out is kind of nice, and i find the media keys and 'disable windows key' function very useful. this isn't mentioned often, but the ducky shine also has dedicated hotkeys for the 'calculator', 'my computer', 'outlook express' (email), and 'webpage home', of which i only i only use the first two.

another bit of info: i got the green back light because it reminded me of the old-school computers that only showed green text on the black background, and it isn't as distracting, like i imagine red or white might be.

tl;dr - i see nothing wrong with the ducky shine, if it is within your means and you want a mechanical keyboard with back light, get it (probably with brown switches).

Quite an interesting thing that they are doing with that key tester, I may be interested in giving that a shot. It definitely be awesome to be able to A-B the different switches.

Good idea on the trying the black widow at best buy, do they normally have the black widows on display?

Thanks for all the info all.
