I'm almost certain that is a stain on the outside of the plastic on your screen, not something mechanically wrong with the monitor itself. Try some electronics safe cleaner and try to scrub it off.

JB,
If it doesn't wash off then the blob is a result of use of the monitor. It doesn't appear to be burn in like we used to see on the CRT units. Could be time to buy a nice new one for the family, and relegate this one for someones gaming rig.
For your info..I usually turn my monitor off ( carefully ) when not in use, and leave my sys on sometimes if I know I will be back on in a reasonable length of time. Good luck with your decision..and welcome back by the way and thanks for your service.

This monitor is only 1 year old from being refurbished, still has warranty I believe. I bought it from guy here on OCN... Normally I wouldn't mind but this is a $500-$600 monitor...

I would give some serious thought about what (new) parts were replaced during the refurbish process. Generally..if you don't buy new..then you have a used product, and all that goes along with that. I have been tempted to buy used before and regretted it, now in my senior years I do only new parts..so when I build up my latest system it will hopefully last me for awhile and I will not have to deal with RMA's. A call to your seller is in order in this case. Good luck.

I have the same issue with this monitor. Your screen is clean smile.gif. The problem is inside the screen:
