Do you know what CPU they were using in that benchmark?

I don't have my 5970 currently... I will tomorrow w/ a faulty mobo so I can't get accurate readings but last I checked I was getting about 30fps on ultra settings w/ 4xAA and 16xAF. I could probably handle taking it down to no msaa and keeping 8x AF or so. I probably would have gotten the 2GB 5970 if it was available. I was like one of the first 100 people to get my hands on the 5970 came with faulty fans and all. I would love to get 60fps in BF3.

vram wouldnt add up (2gb + 2gb would still have 2gb), if you had a 2gb card and a 1gb card the memory would set to the lowest number (in this case 1gb)

My 1100t and the 2500k both play bf3 on 1080, 64player matches, on custom (ultra preset with msaa off) and I average 70's FPS. The 1100t at 4.2ghz plays it as good as my 2500k at 4.8ghz. I just saw a used asus gtx580 in the marketplace for $360 which would do even better.
edit:
Just so you know for sure, monitor your cpu use while gaming and compare it to the gpu use, Im sure you will find the gpu is at 100% and the cpu is much less, that would show that the cpu isnt the bottleneck

Trying to respond to all of these. I will get a coherent conclusion soon just a lot to handle at first heh. But i've been meaning to ask this. I have been trying to find a program (other than the crap task manager) that will show me my CPU Usage. Any ideas?

Yeah, i thought thats how it worked. To be honest, i was running 2 5770's in xfire on ultra, no MSAA with around 50 fps average. So your system should do a hell of a lot better than mine if you turn off MSAA.

I also was/have been contemplating a platform change but I have no issues in BF3 with my 920. I would suggest bumping the OC up to at least 4GHz and maybe pick up a pair of 6950s/70s or a 7970 if any of it is withing budget.

They used AMD FX-8150 (Zambezi) 3.6 GHz with 8gb of G.Skill Ram.

Hmm... this is interesting. Dumb question, but, would adding a 5870 get me 1GB more of VRAM? So essentially I would have 2GB VRAM total?

Also, would an 850W Corsair be enough power to run another 5870? I also have an Auzentech Prelude 7.1 sound card in the PCI slot. An Antec 1200 case ( a lot of fans.) Would I have enough PSU power for that? And where's a good place to get a used 5870. I see some people selling stuff on the forums. Seems like a good place cause if they sold you a defective card their rep might go bad. Don't want to end up w/ a defective 5870 and no RMA. You know?

Is this true? Shoulda gotten that damned 2GB 5970. At the time VRAM didn't matter at all and 1GB was actually a lot. It right after the 5970 phase that they started making 2GB cards and now that is necessary???

No, you would still only have 1gb of available vram. I wouldn't suggest getting another 5870, the 5970 should be enough horsepower to run it. Its just lacking the vram.
