I like using coretemp's CTgragperBeta, its one of the best i have seen
http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/addons.html (near the middle)

I also use msi aferburner to monitor gpu use

Note: the absolute lowest point in that gragh for the gpu is 42fps

Also, would an 850W Corsair be enough power to run another 5870? I also have an Auzentech Prelude 7.1 sound card in the PCI slot. An Antec 1200 case ( a lot of fans.) Would I have enough PSU power for that? And where's a good place to get a used 5870. I see some people selling stuff on the forums. Seems like a good place cause if they sold you a defective card their rep might go bad. Don't want to end up w/ a defective 5870 and no RMA. You know?

nope if you have a 1gb card and another 1gb card you only have 1gb of vram (since each card has 1gb) if you have 2gb card and a 1gb card the 2gb would lower down to 1gb

a 850 watt psu would be cutting it close if you xfire a 5970 together, if you didnt OC them i would think your safe. if it was not the best quality psu you wouldnt be able to but corsair is pretty good with most their psu's

The problem currently is my mobo is defective. It's taking my GPU Usage up and down all the time. Taking the GPU Usage to 0 all the time during gameplay. So I can't truly test how well I'm doing in BF3. Getting impatient w/ Asus and don't want to have to RMA the mobo again and be left without a computer again. I was thinking of just jumping the gun and getting an ASus Rampage III here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131666.

Still be left with LGA 1366, and if I'm going to get a new mobo I may as well upgrade to the LGA 1155 and get a 2500k or 2600k. Otherwise I'd probably be wasting my money. Still confused about whether adding another 5870 would give me more VRAM. I am leaning towards I would still be left with 1GB VRAM with a 59701GB and 58701GB but I don't know.

Well, depending on your needs, if you go 1155 the asus rog maximum iv gene-z is only $179 and if you live near a microcenter I got my 2500k for $179 (actually frys pricematched but live near one regardless)

if both cards are 1gb (5970 1gb + 5870 1gb) you will have 1gb of vram, vram does not add up like normal ram since each card uses its ram independently (or something like that forget the logic behind it)

You would still only have 1gb of available vram. Basically, when it comes to xfire/sli vram, your only as strong as your weakest link.

I know! Totally messed up 1GB was plenty at the time, lol. That was almost 3 years ago, but I remember hearing about a 2GB 5970 shortly after I bought mine.

The 5970 is still a very powerful card if i'm not mistaken. Would I be able to run a 2GB 5970 in crossfire and still get 2GB VRAM?

Problem on OC'ing the i7-920 past 3.4ghz is that it started to fail when I started up windows saying the overclock failed. Is it a bad chip or something? Bah, starting to think I need a whole new computer now basically, lol.

I think due to my budget I might only be able to get a new mobo. But if I'm getting a new mobo there's no sense in me getting another LGA 1366. Might as well upgrade to the 1155, but really don't want to do that unless it's going to make a huge difference in BF3. I'll monitor my CPU Usage tomorrow when I get my 5970 back (keep in mind w/ my faulty mobo, so nothing is too accurate.) and see what the CPU Usage is at. If only I could find the exe for that cpu usage program!
