What about 48 cores at 2.85GHz? The 6180SE chips can be OC'd on a SM board to that level and are now on price par with 6174s.
For F@H the 48 core 6180s will destroy the E5s and I believe the price is considerably cheaper, though I have nothing but hearsay evidence on the E5 pricing.
Just need to decide what's more important to you. Faster rendering or owning one of the highest producing F@H rigs out there.

Guess that depends on just how well the 2687s can clock with their limited OC potential (tho I haven't bothered to look).

2687w - $1900
6180SEs - lowest was $450 used on ebay.,

@Quest - even if you don't overclock them 6180 > 6174.
