If you have a 120hz monitor you won't max it but with a 60hz you should be able to.

troll...there's close to no difference between ultra and high so who cares he could easily get 120+ fps on high + some stuff on ultra with a decent oc.

When I had my 2 570's in sli it was artifacting out. So I'm guessing a single card soultion would be better.

2 570's could get you about 450-500 dollars, you can put 50-100 more and get a 7970.

Thread Starter
Well right now seems like the best time to unload my 570's, and by the number the 7970 looks better than what I have already. My choices are hang to my 570's or pick up a 7970. I won't beable to pick up another card for about a yr or so. It's tax time, and i won't be able to do this agian until next yr. So what do yall think.

Single 7970 here.
1080p screen.
Max "normal bios" OC's, 1650 memory, 1200 core.
68 fps average on 64 player maps. I did an infantry-only run.
When flying jet over 110 so max fps is useless.
Minimum 54 fps, infantry not chopper. On heli gunner my FPS is fine, as a pilot it SOMETIMES dips to 48-9 when firing rockets and flying low with the explosion details. Still no noticeable jitter though tbh...
4xmsaa EVERYTHING MAXED.
No lag.
Buttery smooth.
I'm going to get a second 7970 to try eyefinity with higher details, if I still don't like it 1600p monitor her I come!

If you're willing to OC it with slightly extra vcore and memv, it will be smooth. If you don't want to for whatever reason, you will not be able to max it out smoothly when in some vehicles or situations on 64 player maps.

I STRONGLY suggest getting aftermarket cooling. I cannot notice my gigabyte 7970 until it passes over 55% fan, but even with my OC it stays at 49% fan speed, automatic profile. My case has 700rpm 200mm fans X3, 700rpm 230mm fan X1, 1200rpm 120mm fans X 3, 1400 rpm fans X 2, sitting 1m infront of me. The gpu is silent.

Unless of-course you watercool it biggrin.gif.

Enjoy your new card thumb.gif.

Edit:

I also think that next year a 7970 will be like $360 reference, and $400 aftermarket cooled, so you can pick up one of those and it'll do 1080p fine for the next few years, and you could easily get a resolution upgrade!

This is because AMD is likely to release a refresh of Southern Islands in December-January ish to combat Kepler's 780/785 which'll be king throughout summer/autumn.

Do it.

A 7970 now will max anything out there.

Can't max anything next year? Buy another 7970.

Xfire 7970s will perform for the next 2-3 years, guaranteed (not your money back though). thumb.gif

Indeed do it. Xfx has a good deal on it tbh, but I'd personally not get the reference as noise = my worst enemy. Also the double D from xfx isn't the best aftermarket cooler...

The gigabyte card I bought also has a 3 year warranty, most manufacturers have at least 2 years...

I'd just grab the 7970 if I were you. Overclocking beast on top of a baseline significant gain over previous gen cards = clear winner.

Ok, the 7970 without an extreme overclock does not achieve a constant 60+ fps while maxed out on 64 player maps, especially the B2K maps. In fact, on a couple of the B2K maps, the FPS can drop into the 30s when looking from one end of the map all the way across to the other side. It still performs better than any other single-GPU out there, but don't expect miracles. On smaller maps or with 32 or fewer players, sure the GPU handles beautifully. This is not just my GPU. Google some reference 7970 benchmarks, and you will see that they match my performance. Also, my 3DMark 11 and Heaven scores are on par with professional benchmarks. My CPU is an AMD 1090t OC'd @ 4ghz, and may provide a slight bottleneck, but it's not going to make a big enough difference.
