for me, Yes, absolutely. I have a 6870, I doubt a BD will be the bottleneck in most games, if i'm running a 6870.

we still live in a 2-threaded world. 99% of games still can only support upto 2 threads. BD is horrible for gaming. even a phenom II will be faster than it. yes it's horrible as everyone said. an i5 2500k would've been MUCH better.

quite sad that the highest end BD cpu can only handle a HD6870 and still bottleneck on a number of games. an i3 2100 would've done a better job and will outperform the FX-8150 esp in 2 threaded game and an i3 is ridiculously cheap and power efficient.

Bulldozer compared to Thuban:
~10% more performance
0-10% higher power consumption,
10% higher clock speed,
~33% more transistors,
32nm vs 45nm
33% more cores, meaning badly threaded programs won't give as much improvement or in some cases worse results.
Overclocks about 30% on average (4.6 vs 3.6)

Then Sandy Bridge compared to Lynnfield:
~30% more performance
0-10% less power consumption
~16% higher clock speed
~25% more transistors
32nm vs 45nm
Equal core count so no scaling issues with badly threaded programs
Overclocks about 40% (4.7 vs 3.4)

Is it really that difficult to grasp why people were so disappointed with Bulldozer?

lolkid gamers have to live with 2 cores, i do not. smile.gif pretty much everyday, i use all 6 cores of my phenom at 100% for rendering. There are many applications where a BD is going to be good.

an i3 2100 lacks the mulitmedia ability of more cores. check out some of the render times, some of them have been halfed:

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/289?vs=434

less render time= i get to sleep more.

Attached the replay in question. It's a small file, please use the same part of the match to show fps. same settings and game speed.
It's not a fair test at all, using the same settings is stupid since you have a GTX590 (GTX570~ SLI) whereas Malo is using HD6870 Crossfire so you can't compare the CPU's at 1920x1080.

Min fps in SC2 is pretty much determined by your CPU. I'll agree that it's not a perfect test though.

I never started this thread for intel fanboys? And I didn't start it to ask whether I should get a Bulldozer or i5, I already had that decision made, I just wanted to know what Kind of
performance people are getting in the real world.

And almost ALL of what I've gotten so far is comparisons to Intel, and I don't have and am not getting a intel, and its not in the Title so i dont see how it is relevant.

Please people. Keep your Fanboyism to yourselves, AMD owners here don't want to here it.

From what I've seen so far is that the FX 8150 compares extremely well to the i5 2500K, there are a few tests where the i5 really beats the bulldozer, but there are also tests when the FX 8150 really demolishes the 2500K and sometimes even the 2600K.

Intel fanbois seem to flock to AMD threads to cause dissention and ill will.

IMO the Mods should eliminate all inappropriate Intel posts in AMD theads and vice-versa and WARN those who chronically make inflammatory posts in all threads. After two warnings, give them a ten day "cooling off period". If they still can't behave ban them permanently so the forum can remain some what civil.
