The ipad 3 will only have a more powerful GPU and CPU that will destroy the Tegra 3 even more.

I agree that the A5 has a better GPU, but the CPU part is debatable. The chart only shows graphics performance, not computational and IMO Tegra 3 has the A5 beat at the moment due to the quad-core setup.

The real kicker will be Krait Snapdragon and Adreno 220, then Samsung's Exynos 4212/4412.

Bear in mind that the A5 is over a year old at this point, I'm sure the iPad 3 will have something roughly 75-100% faster, so long as they are able to get a CPU into it that is using a smaller lithography process.

don't forget kid, apple make the worse stuff for the price on the worldwide market... Yeah it may be better for graphics but the ipad2 or 3 doesn't use this power at all.. Ios is total crap to take advantage of this power with this old cpu...

Anyway, i hope apple would get better in price/perf with years but it may get worse.

Tegra 3 is like 15x better in multi tasking i think. it can handle extra high res like a breeze i'm 200% sure. Hope you are kidding when you say nvidia couldn't creat the best mobile gpu on the market as they always are the king of most powerfull single processing unit in the world ( gtx 580 can't be compared to smaller arch like 7970, wait on kepler)

THE best tab is the transformer prime. only fanboys like you couldn't admit that.

I owned both for a while. Ipad2 was xmas gift by my uncle ( lol ) and i brought the prime. In overall perf, i prefer the prime, For someone stupid who need everything easy to use and no liberty on his 600$ tab, ipad may be better.

Anyway that's not the querstion, Ipad may be better on gfx, i hope they do.. only great point to get one of thoses. But they won't reach the best tablet anymore since they aren't alone in the market of tabs.

Everything an ipad do is done by many others. the ipad is just more expensive and has an apple on the back. That's how apple is sadly. i don't prefer any company. That's why own both greatest tablets actually.

Great day to you everyone except fanboys tongue.gif

Do you have any proof to back up your claims? And why are you calling me kid? You might try to be a little less condescending.

This isn't about the fastest GPU in the world, it's about efficient mobile GPUs, and if Nvidia is the best at it, why don't they have the fastest mobile GPU?

The "best" is subjective, and just because someone doesn't agree with you doesn't make them a fanboy.

Performance isn't always what makes something the best, people may prefer the iPad for its ease of use, or familiarity, or large selection of apps, or compatibility with existing chargers or accessories, etc.

Nvidia focused on power efficiency with Tegra 3 actually, in addition to the 5th companion core it also uses multiple governor settings affecting both performance and image quality - at least in the Transformer Prime. For example, the Power Saving mode decreases contrast and color saturation greatly, while Balanced and Performance modes have the full color gamut enabled. Nvidia also introduced smart GPU throttling in rendering videos, as it can basically power down or up certain pixels based on video information. I'm not knowledgeable in the specifics, but that's the gist of it if I recall.

I'm pretty sure as well that whatever loss in pure GPU prowess T3 sacrifices, it makes up for it in the CPU and physics department.

Ideally, you are right, pixels so small that one pixel by itself could never be noticed, would be excellent. Something that dense, however, is very unrealistic, at the moment as least. Maybe in 10 years we'll have resolutions like that, although the need for it is so small it may not happen for much longer. For the time being it's much easier to see pixels on many tablets because they're made to view at much closer distances, which is the same reason phone screens have increased pixel density in the last few years, but for computer screens the demand is much less. If you want to try the viewing distance test again, open up your favorite game and put it at 720p and stand back a few more feet than normal viewing distance, then do it again at 1080p. The difference should be negligible, however, the 720p may appear blurry due to it not being a native resolution.

Yes, I abhor anti-aliasing, it reduces image quality or just renders your image at higher resolution and then downscales! What a waste of processing power.
Eyefinity already supports 7680x3200, and Panasonic has already proven they can make 20" 4Kx2K monitors (I will have three of those ASAP).

I expect we won't have to wait too long for 4Kx2K laptops (especially from Apple).

Just to be clear, I have nothing against higher resolutions on laptops or computer monitors, but that needs to happen in tandem with performance increases. At this point in time I feel higher pixel densities for tablets is a higher priority just due to how much easier it is to see pixels on them.

Anti-aliasing works well, but having a higher resolution as well as anti-aliasing will just work so much better. As I'm sure you know, the best AA visually is SSAA, which renders the game at x times the resolution, and then downscales it IIRC -- actually being able to fit that many pixels on the screen will be much better -- throw in 2 or 4x MSAA and you've got a winner.

As AnandTech tests, up to 40mbps high-profile 1080p MKV is supported. Not yet quite an HTPC with some really rare formats being unplayable, but we're getting there.
Ah nice, that's pretty cool.

The only benefit the Tegra 3 has over the A5 is another two Cortex A9 cores, and the iPad 3 is literally around the corner.

This resolution will just make 1080p videos look blurry. They should have stuck with 1080p. Only reason to have high resolution on a tab is for videos anyway
