Microsoft makes more money off of Android licensing than they make on Windows Phone 7 licensing. Why is this kosher?

Microsoft may have already signed patent licensing agreements with 70 percent of the US Android manufacturers, including some of the biggest names in the market, but that doesn't mean Redmond's about ready to hit the brakes anytime soon. Next up on the block is Pantech, according to a company spokesperson talking with Yonhap News. No specific details have been decided yet, so we'll have to wait for the official word and see what happens.

Now that Microsoft has patent licensing agreements with 70% of US Android manufacturers they're saying they want to call a truce? And this just happens to come the week before the U.S. Justice Department is poised to clear Google Inc.'s $12.5 billion acquisition of Motorola, giving Google a powerful armory of technology patents to deploy in the smartphone wars. ...How very kind of your Microsoft.

I don't get it.

What would the consequences be for Microsoft not doing this?

MS is so bad that they dont even require activation on MS office anymore. How evil.

It does seem like they are playing nice now that they're on top. Pay no attention to the pile of corpses they stood on to get there.

If you think they're the good guys, think again...

Depends on what you consider "personal information". If we're talking about names, etc I thought that was completely untrue. Was pretty sure they just based ads off of your personal information, and etc. Not exactly selling it, no?
