vid cards make no sense

Thread Starter
why are all gpus facing down. that makes it seem like most of the heat would go back up through the gpu and only a small amount would go through the heat sink. turning my pc upside down gives me 10 extra maghtz

some company actually makes a upward facing vid card. I think the reasoning is to keep from having clearence issues with large CPU heatsinks, but thats just my opinion on the reason.

This is one of the reasons why they made the BTX formfactor. It was never widely used though.

BTX is not upsidedown. BTX is flat, it is made by Intel. It was designed to cool the computer better by having the CPU in front with an air duct. You can have your card face "up" by buying a case that has an upside down ATX motherboard tray.

Sorry, a little slow today. That's what I meant. I always call that BTX for some reason.

Hey, no problem, the upside down ATX case really does need a form factor name... I just wrote a FAQ with some lovely links in it about BTX, I'll post the link here if/when a mod posts it.

I honestly don't know- what Leprechaun said up top makes sense, but one would think that it makes more sense to have it the "right" side up.
