AMD phenom II 965BE skyrocketing temp

Last week for the first time I was trying to overclock my cpu and I noticed this high temperature issue. Actually few months back I had problem with my ATX supply. At that time, while replacing my ATX; as a curious exercise I dismantled my CPU from chassis and did some cleaning and put it back without thermal grease(That was really lame!!). Last week while reading something on overclocking I came to know about thermal paste then I immediately did the correcting action, applied thermal grease. Without thermal grease my cpu temp was reaching more 80C. I'm using stock cooler that come with PIB Now it goes to above level. What is the exact issue??? Do I need to use another better quality thermal paste?

80C eek.gif u are going to fried that cpu the max temps are 55C i guess for the phenom II series and what made you remove the thermal paste/Thermal Grease/TIM and put it back without it ????? kookoo.gif
ur PSU is ridiculous 9.02v on +12v pls can u tell which PSU do u have ???
and u need a Aftermarket cooler for overclocking stock HSF stucks when it comes to overclocking
get a cheap Thermal grease like
225
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound - OEM 12.98$
and a decent Aftermarket cooler like a
225
Enermax ETS-T40 T.B.SILENCE CPU Cooler(Side Flow) With PWM Twister Bearing Fan 29.99$ as good as a 212 evo
get a decent PSU to from a Decent company like corsair,Antec,OCZ,Seasonic,etc..

I'm guessing the heat sink isn't applied properly... Is it making good physical contact with the CPU? And yes, after market coolers are well worth it.

yes that for sure he must have put a large amount of TIM maybe which is not good

I have I-ball 621 cabinet and PSU came with the same(I-ball). As I stated earlier few months back it did some cracking sound and my PC goes off and that's where my curious mind thought of dismantling processor. And not only that cleaning it up till it shines(removing of thermal grease...lame!!redface.gif). Fortunately my cpu didn't fried in these last few months while I was running it w/o thermal grease. I wonder....What temp it did hit few weeks ago? I was playing Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. Even completed it!(w/o thermal grease w/o noticing temp w/o frying cpu:D)

I would say that its not making good contact with your cpu. In other words the cooler is not on the cpu right. Take that bad boy off- wipe the cooler and the cpu clean-reapply thermal paste(make sure its about the size of a rice kernal)-reapply the heatsink and make sure you screw it down good or make sure the heatsink does not move when you have tighten down everything- if it does not move and it seems to be on your cpu correctly restart your computer and I bet your temps will be down bro.

max is 62c not 55c. 55c is what the community would advise as maximum but AMD mentioned the actual max is 62c. biggrin.gif

Actually I wasn't able to get TIM last Sunday(Sunday's are sometimes annoying. Especially if know you are running your cpu w/o TIM and you didn't find single shop to buy it!). I was desperate to get TIM last Sunday. Then I found one internet cafe guy who gave me TIM(I'm not sure of its quality...because he said its only for 10bucks). Really?? 10 bucks??
