Canon New EF-s L Lens revealed! - Page 2

I have the 50 1.8 and its good as for a cheap lens I agree.

I hated that 18-55 from day one. I guess it was just me?

I nearly died when I open my 7D kit and used the 15-85 lens that came with it. The difference... Its like an epiphany or something. The sudden realization of why people spend countless amounts of money on good lenses.

lol, omg the 15-85 is great, I only wish it was a F/2.8! Or at least a constant f/4...

And you though the nifty 50 was good? lol, I didn't really, missed focus a lot, very slow, and when it comes to cheap there is no other like it. lol

And the 18-55 IS was OK compared to the 50 1.8 to me...but still as you said a POS.

The 50 1.8 is also built like total crap, but can also generate some nice images. Build quality is nice, but it costs a lot of money.

I definitely +1 to this.

The 18-55mm IS is built cheaply, lacks USM, and AFs like its gears are drenched in molasses. That said, the IQ is superb for the price you pay for it. I look at it the same way I do as the 50mm f/1.8: Build quality and AF are bad compared to other lenses, but it has excellent performance where it counts - image quality.

There are obviously much better lenses than the 18-55mm IS, but they're also more expensive. For the price of the 18-55mm IS, it's a great place for beginners to start.

And as for 18-55mm non-IS vs IS, exactly what jason said. Canon did more than just slap an IS mechanism onto the lens; they also redid the optics as well. It's much sharper than its predecessor.

This makes me think that an f/11 challenge is in order. How many of you can create a wonderful photograph without annihilating the background straight into Blurtown, USA?

As a mod I cannot permit this. To be sure though, just PM me a link to your photos to verify. High res if possible. biggrin.gif

(No, really, if they can run in their outfits without anything popping out, it's probably okay)
