Need a new 1155 mobo.

Hey guys

I've come to the conclusion that I have had it with my current gigabyte z68x-ud5-b3 board. This thing has had nothing but problems. I've already had it RMA'd and it still has issues (power cycling). It has gone back to power cycling. I just got off the phone with a tech rep and they told me to update bios... This board is completely unreliable and since it was my first Gigabyte product I've had - I'm probably never going to give them another chance.

Soooo - I would like a new p67/z68 board - although I think z68 has the upper hand? I just want something that will oc like a beast and has a few pcie slots ect. my budget is $175-$200.

ASRock Extreme 3 or extreme 4 get my vote. They pack quite alot of features for the price.

The extreme 3 is cheaper than your budget though so maybe you want something more. Have used the extreme 3 and was impressed by the build quality.

these are the boards i would be looking at
ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131792
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/P8Z68VGEN3/
ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 LGA 1155
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131790
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/P8Z68V_PROGEN3/
abit over your budget might elsewhere might have it cheaper
ASUS P8Z68 DELUXE/GEN3 LGA 1155
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131791
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/P8Z68_DELUXEGEN3/
these 3 bords will let you push you CPU out to 5GHz (Alsong as your chip can run stable at 5). ok to good crossfire and sli features depending on the board
Also you could look at Asus p8p67 boards aswell..
i would consider looking at the ASRock extreme editions as well, they are rock solid great overcloking, xfire or sli boards.. and have come a long way to become one of the big 3 manufactures
a selection here
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&N=-1&isNodeId=1&Description=asrock+gen3&x=24&y=9
and my recomendation
ASRock Z68 EXTREME4 GEN3 LGA 1155
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157264
i hope that gives you some idea and helps your selection thumb.gif

I've just ordered an Asus Maximus IV Gene-Z /Gen3, It's in the price range if you are happy with sacrificing a couple of PCI-E slots as it only has two 16x 3.0slots and a 4x PCI-E 2.0 slot and lacks PCI) aside from that its a highly rated board =D

FYi if you update to the latest BETA BIOs here, it shoudl solve your power cycling, Intel released a ME firmware update which solves it.

please update this BIOS: BIOS F10C it should solve your issues.

The issue came because GIGABYTE didn't want to use the AMI BIOS template which is what all UEFI use, so GIGABYTE had to modify the firmware, so i am guessing that is what led to issues with certain boards. Try out the BIOS.

Look here GB page for BIOS update, it was released this past week:
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3848&dl=1#bios

2. Improve power on issue
1. Update ME / CPU code

FYI now isn't a good time to get another Z68 board, a month or two and you can get a Z77 board, with tons of internal headers and back panel USb 3.0 which are native to the chipset.

Asrock make great boards but I've seen in benchmarks they aren't as great as similarly priced Asus ones.
Go with Asus p8z68v pro/gen3.
It rocks!
I highly recommend this board.

update the BIOS, if it doesn't solve all your issues then get another. Otherwise i would recommend waiting for Z77 even for other boards, in a month youll be angry you paid 15% more for the same thing. Prices on asus Z68 will drop insanely fast.
