I let my one i7-920's that is not on water run the last 12-16 hours of the FaT at 70C. I usually cut it off before this but it is a FaT. I want to keep one i7-920 in my group that is not used for folding (good for VM's) available for school work. The one that will take this ones place simply needed to get assembled. I was missing a hdd for it, but I did not want to pull a brand new 500gb hdd out of the box for a folding rig, so I used my school i7-920 and let it get a bit hot. I bought two more small hdd's (a 160 for 30.00 and a 40 for 20.00) off our marketplace. I am trying to find and install small hdd's for all my folding rigs. I did not get the I7-970 I bought from Desert Rat clocked any higher than 3.6 as I am waiting on a board that had to go to RMA (a P6X58D-Preminum, I hope I can get 4.2 out of it). I was not so sure how a Rampage III Gene would handle a maximum overclock, so I kept it low.
I find the gear for first Gen i7's to be about 15% cheaper than the 2500/2600/27000 line so I will stick with socket 1366 and get what points I can. I am in too deep with socket 1366 to bail out now and they do make great machines to virtuialize with.
