Good choice. Update the firmware to 0309 and then install. No more worries.

"Don't get the Vertex 3/Agility 3 because they BSOD if you don't update the firmware. Get the M4 instead, but you have to update the firmware or it will BSOD"

After over 5200 hours of use...sure. That's nearly one FULL year of 24/7 use. rolleyes.gif And the 0309 Firmware completely fixes it.

There is no fix for Sandforce drives like the Vertex / Agility. So you'll have BSOD issues eventually with those regardless. At least with the M4 its fixed. rolleyes.gif

I have to say I'm totally missing the point or what's more likely is you don't really have one.

Are you really trying to highlight bsod between the drives as being anywhere near the same?

Let's see here........

The OCZ had a bsod that was totally random right from release making the drive 100% unreliable.
The m4 had a bsod when the powered on hours hit 5200 causing the drive to reset every hour after. In other words, not random.

OCZ was notified of the issue by many users starting in May 2011.
Crucial was notified of the issue in December 2011.

Sandforce gave OCZ a firmware update 2.08 in June that didn't solve the issue.
Crucial released a firmware update for January that totally solved the issue.

Sandforce gave OCZ firmware update 2.09 in July that didn't solve the issue and slowed down the drive's advertised speeds.

Sandforce gave OCZ firmware update 2.11 in August that didn't solve the issue.

Sandforce gave OCZ firmware issue 2.13 in September that didn't solve the issue.

Sandforce gave OCZ firmware issue 2.15 in October that helped some people but did not solve all the issues.

And for the record, here is the response from both companies during the problem.

OCZ - there is no issue. You aren't setting up Windows correctly. Here's a 15 step guide to do it.
Crucial - we are aware of the issue and testing a firmware fix for release asap.

OCZ - there still is no issue. Your overclock that was stable for 6 months before our drive was put in is the culprit. Prime and Linpack are not good overclock testers.
Crucial - Firmware update is out. Problem is fixed.

OCZ - there is no issue. Intel's implementation of Sata 6gb/s is flawed.

I own both drives, I was there for both bsod events from right from the start. There is no comparison of them to be made whatsoever.

No. That drive is basically Mushkin's version of the Vertex 3. The same problems the Vertex has will effect that drive as well.

The m4 is a much more reliable solution.

This thread was just me being super stingy and not willing to chip in a measly 10 bucks to get my cousin a reliable drive. But turns out I have an ethical side hiding inside somewhere after all.
