[FIXED] put rig together, no display, shuts off.

Thread Starter
I finished putting together my computer today after hours of working on it.
I turn it on, H100 light doesn't turn on, so I shut it off quickly, guess it takes cpufan/motherboard connection AND molex, so i hook that up. lights come on.. everything looks good inside, nothing on the display, restarts after 10 seconds. I count to 15 before i shut it down myself. Nothing goes to monitor.

asus p8z68-v gen3 motherboard
core i7-2600k cpu
corsair h100 cpucooler
PNY 560ti gpu
thermaltake 750 TR2 RX 80plus bronze
got a few unformatted harddrives (not ssd)
corsair K90 kb
razernaga epic mouse
hooked up

I don't know what I've done wrong, everything is hooked up and turns on inside (fans n heatsink) Help?

First thing i would do is test barebones, meaning only the Mobo, CPU, and CPU fan plugged in with 1 stick of RAM. This means use the on-board video, and see if you can get the system to POST. Any beeps?

Edit: Read past the h100, you definitely need that running, so plug in whatever is necessary to power that

You do have a speaker plugged in I'm assuming (Motherboard manual pg 2-29). The beeps would happen on startup and is the motherboards way of communicating what is wrong.

Memory issue: Beep (1 long 2 short)
Graphics card issue: Beep (1 long 3 short)
CPU issue: Beep (5 short)

my case (thermaltake level10 gt) does not have the 4pin connector for chassis speaker as far as i can tell. I took all out, leaving ram, CPU, heatsink. same deal. I then took that ram out, and used the other stick, same problem.

The computer does not seem to restart on it's own after the first restart at @10 seconds. I counted to 25 then powered it down manually. No display still.

EDIT: how long would it take to mess up a CPU with a Corsair h100 hooked up and stuff, just w/ no fans on? it was on for maybe 10 seconds...... and it didnt have a display to start with.

You didn't get a speaker like this with the mobo:

http://www.google.com/imgres?q=4+pin+computer+speakers&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&qscrl=1&nord=1&rlz=1T4ADFA_enUS460US462&biw=1828&bih=989&tbm=isch&tbnid=L6pKLpON3CErKM:&imgrefurl=http://www.xsfans.com/index.php%3Fmain_page%3Dproduct_info%26products_id%3D204&docid=X1lKyyYWSr94OM&imgurl=http://www.xsfans.com/images/medium/0204_MED.jpg&w=300&h=300&ei=9eM1T8v8F-WS0QGY1aipAg&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=236&sig=107625664445547864579&page=1&tbnh=95&tbnw=91&start=0&ndsp=51&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0&tx=59&ty=47

Next I would suggest starting up barebones, outside of the case to eliminate any grounding issues with the case.

10 seconds is not going to damaged your CPU. That may have been the reason for the auto restart though..

EDIT: Is there a fan plugged into the CPU_FAN header on the mobo?

Have you tried using just the onboard video on the mobo? Have you checked to make sure the DVI connector is properly connected at the monitor? Also, make sure the monitor doesn't have the wrong input source selected.

nope, no speaker.. yes, the corsair h100 is hooked up to CPU fan header, and after 1st startup, also to a molex.

I just built a computer for a friend a week ago. If i had anything usb plugged into it, it would do the same exact thing. Dont know if it helps, but unplug anything usb and try it again.

going to go unplug USB stuff now.

also, the motherboard says it has some lights for POST... and I believe the one that is on corresponds to "DRAM". I have taken out and tried both sticks of ram by themselves, and even in different slots, no avail.
