Modding Antec 300

Thread Starter
I have had this build for about 6 months now and decided that I needed to mod something. It is in an Antec 300 case, and the case has always looked cramped, but I do like the case, so mod it I shall.

What I am looking to do as this goes along.

- Cut holes in the motherboard tray for cable management.
- Cut an opening at the bottom of the case and mount the PSU so that it draws in air from outside the case.
- Paint the inside of the case black. That silver there is awful.
- Devise a fan controller, but still utilizing to Antec tri-cools that came with the case.

Edit: - Almost forgot about the window. Adding a lexan window, no point in prettying up the inside if you can't see it.

Edit 2 - Install some kind of feet to raise the case up for PSU airflow.

lol, short list. Thats all I really need to do with this case until I decide to build something else. Putting pics up soon, this computer I am using is rather slow.

First (after I stared at the case for about an hour) I marked off where the mobo is on the back of the tray for reference.

DSCF3327.jpg

Getting ready to cut the slot for the 24 pin.

DSCF3332.jpg

Rough cut, had to cut angles b/c the dremel wheel was to wide to cut that narrow.

DSCF3333.jpg

I switched to a small diameter grinding stone to smooth the corners.

DSCF3334.jpg

Then finally running some 220 grit through it to knock any burs off and smooth it up.

Nice. At least you have a 300 with the MoBo cutout. Both mine are the first version with a solid tray.

The silver interior is just horrible looking, even though it does not have a window. I painted one of mine, the other I never bothered with (it has my server and sits in a corner).

I had grand plans for one of mine, but just never got around to it. My daughter wanted a Purple and Pink computer and I was going to user her 300 to do that. She has told me recently she does not want purple/pink anymore. She does not know what she wants, so it stays black (and under her desk pretty much unseen).

Cutting the slot for the SATA cables.

DSCF3337.jpg

Somehow there is a gap in progress here. I cut holes for:

- 24 pin
- Sata Cables
- Front USB
- Case Power Switch/ Reset
- CPU Fan
- CPU Power

I'm looking to do all the same things to my Antec 300. I have another case I'm going to practice on first before making any permanent mods, though. It's great to see someone in the same process that I'll be in soon. Thanks and repped!

Time to get ready to paint. Blowing any last debris from out of the case after I scuffed it up real good for the primer to stick.

DSCF3344.jpg

Primer on.

DSCF3346.jpg

While I was at it, guess I was going to cut out the front intake fan grills

DSCF3328.jpg

DSCF3331.jpg

DSCF3329.jpg

Went ahead and decided I was going to paint the two fans that sit on the H60's rad too. I kinda wanted them to look somewhat the color of my motherboards heat sinks.

DSCF3345.jpg

Done with the fans. They are a kind of gunmetal silver color. From far away they look like the metal on the heat sinks.

DSCF3350.jpg

Up next is the fan controller.

I suppose i should make some holes in mine for cable management.

All I have done so far is reverse mATX, Fan Grills, and window.

I might hold off on the cable management holes until i know what motherboard ill put into it, Kind of want to hold out until IB.

Are you gonna raise the feet on the A300? If not I highly suggest not letting that psu suck air from the ground or that's gonna get super dusty quick .

Im guessing this is your sig rig and if you only have 2 hdds and have room in your 5.25" bays or elsewhere, removing the 3.5" bays really opens up some airlfow.
