23" IPS or 27" ASUS TN

Thread Starter
Ive got a friend in need, who cant use his new Dell Ultrasharp U2312HM because it's a polarized screen that has a blind spot at 0 degrees. (he wears polarized lenses.) I've got a 27" ASUS VE27 in my sig rig that i was think of trading him.... Is it worth the trade for 99% FPS gaming?

I would personally prefer the 27'' because the 4'' diagonal extra is significant enough.  And the better colours of an IPS panel does not count much for gaming purpose.  The only reason that I can come up with in favour of trading the monitors is:- helping out a friend.

As his Dell is new, can he just return the monitor, at least for store credit or in exchange of another mionitor?  I imagine his reason (ie wearing polarized lens) of returning is very valid and understandable.

The Dell monitors are excellent but have slow response time (8ms). Not very good for gaming.
I wouldn't do it.

Quoted 8ms means next to nothing though. It sure does a lot better than many rated at 5ms, and way better than some panels that are egregiously overdriven like the 2ms 120Hz BenQ XL2410T. Input lag is also very low for the U2312HM.

See comparative pictures and data here for ghosting and lag:

http://www.prad.de/en/monitore/review/2011/review-dell-u2312hm-part13.html#Responsiveness

It really depends on the game (which fps?), how much you care about it, and so on. If the action is very fast and jerky, or if you're more sensitive to ghosting than most, I would be hesitant. Otherwise, it's probably okay.

Do note that the U2312HM has lower contrast ratio than many alternatives and also a pretty high minimum brightness setting. If you ever have the lights dimmed (not to mention totally off), over 100 cd/m^2 is much too high IMHO, and this is even brighter than that.

As I said in my PM, probably not. You'll most likely end up enjoying the added size of the asus more than what the u2312hm offers. Especially for gaming.
