Should I get into pc gaming or not? - Page 7

PC gaming can get expensive. I think the biggest factor besides that you need to consider is whether or not you are willing to put some time and effort into tweaking your system when new games come out. Tweaking graphics settings and GPU control panels to get your games running as smooth and with the best quality can take some patience at times. You could easily find yourself in a battle spending hours identifying simply what GPU drivers work best with your set-up. Best thing you can do if you want to simplify things is to stick with single GPU unless you are willing to spend the extra time getting Xfire/SLI working right. Some people don't have any problems, some people have lots of problems.

Either way, this site would be a great avenue to help solve any problems you may have come up, but the bulk of the work is going to fall on your shoulders. If you want to plug a game in and go without any hassle, your best bet is to stick with consoles. There is no doubt that PC games can provide far superior performance and graphics, and I've never had an issue with finding other people to play with. You're going to have to hang up on most of your console buddies, as they will likely be hard pressed to play on a PC. There are, however, plenty of PC gamers out there available to befriend. Here is a good place to find them as well.

If your talking an Xbox360/PS3 performance PC its around $400. Plus you get a computer which your going to use anyways.

Few things from my side of the boat. I am still building my PC, but it is up and running. I have a ps3, and we have an xBox downstairs. My pc, in tearms of games, blows consoles out of the water, and will do with the next couple of gens of consoles, however I still use my PS3 (would xbox but cba to get membership). If you buy a pc you are not buying a gaming rig, you can use it for everything. I use my PC to stream movies, that are incompatable, to my ps3 when i have it hooked up to the 37" TV downstairs. You could use it to record gamplay, if you stick with consoles, and youtube looks nice. biggrin.gif

I find the problem is i game on everything. The PC it's stuff like minecraft APB reloaded and other exclusives ect. The xbox it's mainly exclusives like Gears and the ps3 it's COD:BO (thats it) cos thats what me and a few mates love messing around on.

When building a pc, you are not solely going to game on it. You can work, render, chat and go to the cinima with it. I look at it as more of a package rarther than a 'gaming' experance.

Oh btw The Witcher 2 is an epic example of PC gaming looking it's best.

I say do it, I stopped playing consoles ever since I put together my old rig over a year ago now I still have the XBox 360 & the PS3 but looking at console graphics makes me feel sick they are just that bad . I got out of pc gaming years ago from being quite a hardcore pc gamer a while later put togrther my old rig and have played everyday since, Sure you get the odd problem but it's nothing that can't be fixed luckily I have my dad around who works whith computers for a living so he fixes all my hardware & other problems if i cant fix them myself. Seriously it's pretty cool having something you put together from the ground up, parts you chose yourself blood, sweat & tears & all that crap running beautifully by the side of you as your immersed in utter gaming splender. build your own rig you'll see you wont be dissapointed.

If you enjoy tinkering and aren't gonna rage out if you're favorite games crashes then pc is better. Consoles are more stable, but I will never pick them over a pc. I like the customization, but because every system is unique, small issues will arise here and there. That being said, I think it's user error about 90% of the time. Consoles limit one's ability to make those errors; power button, disc in, play.

It's simple.

If you want the best gaming experience, you cannot beat PC gaming, even standard console ports can be played at higher resolutions and at 60fps outdoing consoles, i've only been a pc gamer for a couple of years, i still own my 360 & PS3 but hardly ever play on them these days apart from the odd exclusive.

You will come across errors, no doubt, but that's to be expected since all PC's are different so more chances of there being conflicts, also, mods, just look at some of the mods for games like Crysis, Skyrim etc Truly a sight to behold biggrin.gif

And to the OP, that's a great reason to switch to PC gaming. Steam sales allow you to get most AAA titles of the previous year for ~£5 (bar COD of course - they never go on good sales). For example, I have 172 games on my Steam account now - and probably have spent less than £400. I doubt you'd get that on console.
Aka; unless you only want to play COD, PC games are significantly cheaper, and will probably offset the inital cost of a gaming PC. And with a gaming PC - provided you have a decent PC already, you only need a GPU (and maybe a new PSU). The cost is typically exaggerated by console fanboys.

if you like playing outdated last years games or only buy one game and then play it for half a year (like a lot of ppl on here who still play outdated games like Skyrim), then go PC, but if you buy a console you can subscribe to Gamefly for $15/mo and you get to rent all the newest titles when they come out.

If Skyrim is "out dated" then then what games do you play? mmos (ha ha older thread)? Gamefly is even on the PC so your argument is completely invalid.

I beat Skyrim in 6 hours the day after it came out and that was months ago, and I consider mmo players nerds who pay $15/mo for the same game.
And gamefly unlimited PC play is just terrible, they only have some really old titles like red faction (the first one) with all the characters have polygon heads.
