mATX build for MMO's

Thread Starter
looking to build a new computer.

i play league of legends, eve online, will be playing diablo 3, and tera.
would like to build a computer that can run all these games at on ultra settings at 60+fps constant.
and it needs to be mATX. i'm tired of big, clunky cases.

would an i3 2100 be able to handle my goal, or should i go for an i5 2500? (don't want a K chip, don't plan on overclocking at all)
could i reach my goal with an h61/67 mATX mobo and 8gigs of 1333mhz ram?
what's the cheapest graphics card i can get that can handle all these games on ultra settings?

I think you severely underestimate these newer games and what hardware they require to operate at 60+ FPS constant. unfortunately, i'm not sure if it's within your budget to achieve your goal.

who said i have a budget? i'm merely asking what they require...
if it takes more than the hardware i've asked questions about, simply point me in the right direction in terms of hardware so i can achieve that goal.

i just don't want to build a rig so completely overkill that i'll be wasting all that extra power on nothing.

:thinking.gif: this is Overclock.net..it's NEVER overkill! :lachen.gif:
Ok..So..you don't want to OC...:kookoo.gif: but anyways...
i5 2400 is true quad-core,no?

I just want to give a tip.
G.Skill has a better RAM kit for the same price.

Not sure how demanding those games are, but on Rift my rig won't keep 60fps constant completely maxed out. Also some very high end cards and most likely future cards will be bottle-necked by current cpu's without overclocking. That is if you want to play maxed out for a decent amount of time without turning down settings or loosing fps.

i seriously doubt you'd get even constant 35fps on that vid card with diablo3 smile.gif

have you seen some of the gameplay vids?

okay so i've changed my approach to my mmo build. i want to build a main rig next year. as for now, i want a lan rig that will play the games i previously stated. i don't want to go over $600.

as of right now, with all the parts from newegg, my build has come to $529.94.

case
motherboard
processor
memory
video card
hard drive

i just need a recommendation on a good, modular psu to power the components i have chosen for the build.
any suggestions, or a thread i can go to to find out?

for a LAN rig, all you need is a SG07 and an A8 3870k. it wont play the games you want very well, however the games you want to play wont really play well till you start building your main rig anyway. when that comes, you can do it proper and run a 7970 or kepler so you can actually approach 60FPS constant. then you can retire the llano to HTPC duties and not feel like you wasted $ on mediocre components. if you ever decide to go with a killer SFF rig, you'll still have the awesomeness of the SG07 to start you off in the right direction.

i really want to build an intel z68 based system so i can upgrade to ivy bridge when it becomes availible.
though i should pick a different motherboard to do that with so i can take advantage of pci-x 3.0 when it's ready right?

amd really hasn't shown anything in the processor department for quite some time and i just don't trust integrated graphics.
