Need a OG OCer

Ram : 2 gig Patriot = advertised timings ddr2 800 4 4 4 12, autoset is ddr2 800 5 5 5 15

Mobo : asus m2n-sli deluxe, bios 0202

Processor : Am2(940) windsor Amd 3800+ x2

Problem : It doesnt seem to wana push past 2150 mhz. I push it a lil more and freezes up as soon as i run my benchmark program. And it isnt even hot = 35-38- Load. so i take it back to 2100 and bios freezes, so after i fix it: i set frequency to 2340 and set multiplyer to 9. And it boots. so i thought just keep lowering multiplyer. i took it to frequency 2690 and multiplyer 8. and it wouldnt boot. So now i am keepin it at 2050 and 10 multiplyer. I didnt mess with voltage at all, i know NOTHIN about it so thats why i post here. My goal is 2400 frequency, it should work i have a big tyhoon with a silverstone fan on it + arctic silver. im confused.. Any suggestions?

If u get me to 2200 stable ill rep + u =D

Ok.. I am missing your HT link settings:
  • Go to the Advanced Menu in the BIOS
  • Select 'Chipset'
  • You'll see something like CPU<->MCP55 HT Speed
  • Put that down to 4x
  • Now, try again.
  • Once you hit an HTT of 250MHz, put the CPU<->MCP55 HT Speed to 3x
The key is that the HTT multiplied with the CPU<->MCP55 HT Speed should be around 1,000. Thus, with HTT = 200, you're fine (200x5 = 1,000), but at 215MHz (which corresponds with 2150 for the CPU), it's too high (215x5 = 1,075).

Also, I recommend you put the RAM on DDR2 667 speeds. If they are at DDR2 800 speeds, the effective speed will be 215/200x800 = DDR2 860 speeds. Although this should not be a problem for good DDR2 800 RAM, it might hold you back when yuo get higher up. With RAM at DDR2 667 speeds, you can get up to an HTT of 240MHz (CPU 2.4GHz) before you hit the stock speed of the RAM again (240/200*667 = DDR2 800 speeds)

Try if this works...if not, post back.

Hello,

First of all I think you should really read this walkthrough about HOW TO OC AN AMD CPU

If it so happens you've read it and still no luck you could try these:
- lower LDT (or HTT whatever it's called in your bios) to 4x or even 3x
- swich ddr2 setting to DDR2-667. At stock you might loose some 2%-3% power, but it helps OCing a lot, so overall you win
- Take care that the HTT doesn't get over 1000 (HTT real freq = HTT multi x HTT).
- Take care that the RAM doesn't get over 800 (RAM freq= HTT x OWN VALUE/800), where OWN VALUE is what you set in the BIOS (like 533, 667 or 800)
- Up the HTT slowly, in 5MHz steps. When it doesn't OC any more you can do the folowing: move down the HTT multi (to 3x, 2x), move the RAM OWN VALUE to 533, or even 400 and than continue raising HTT in 2 MHz steps.
- If at one point you reduce both HTT multi and RAM OWN VALUE and still it doesn't OC you should raise the Vcore to feed the CPU with more voltage. Raise it in small increments (0.025V or 0.05V) and oly when needed. If you are on stock AMD cooling do not go over 1.5V. Also, after each succesfull OC over 220HTT run half an hour of OCCT and observe what is the max teperature of the CPU. If it goes over 55°C do not continue on OCing unless you provide adequate cooling.
- The upper limit of your OC is usualy achieved when your CPU is too tot for you to OC any further. For ex, you are at 240x9=2160MHz, 1.5V core and the CPU in @55° in full load, it means it can't take any more.

Good OCing!

Ok. i read that guide u gave me, and used both of ur advise.

Pre-measures- I took my ddr2 800 to ddr2 667. the timings i left on auto (5-5-5-15-2t).
- Turned down the chipset to 4x 16up 16down
- Increased the voltage for chipset/cpu by to 1.40

Overclockage
- I put my multiplyer to 8
- Then set my cpu to 210
- Booted once, then locked up on ONLY THAT!!
- According to that guide, my max cpu push is 210 or something
- In the end, i have ddr2 667 555 15 2t, 4x chipset, 207 fsb on a 10 multiplyer
- So now the question is, should i have 205 ddr2800 w/ 5x chipset OR ddr667 with 207 fsb.

This doesnt make sence becuase before this, i used a program that overclocked while in windows: ai booster. and i took it to 215 on 10 multiplyer, and ddr2 800 ram. 5-5-5-15-2t and it stayed stable for my stress test. Hexus pifast. witch stresses both cores about 50% each. After that however, i took it to 220 and it froze during the stress test. I tried booting with the 215 setting, and it wouldnt boot. then i tried 210. No boot. 205. and finally i got a boot.

Again i really think im doin somethin wrong with voltage becuase this seems a sorry limit.
cpu/chipset voltage = 1.40
vcore = auto
ddr2 = auto
pci = auto

Ok i tried a whole bunch of ****, in the end i just upped the vcore which worked. For some reason my pc doesnt boot a overclock the first restart. You gotta restart it once more. then it loads..i am sitting at 2200 mhz right now with 26'C. its pretty cold right now..10 in the morning. burr..but last night i ran a prime 95 for couple of hours. and it never went above 45'C. So im guessing i have more room to push. What i do is: i push the cpu higher and higher on the same vcore untill i bench it and it shows me a lower reading than what i set it, then i up the vcore. right now its a 1.4 vcore. i dont think im gona push it past 1.55. even though my cpu is frozen. My only other concern is my motherboard. its at 28'C under load. Im wondering the limits of the motherboard heat. I wont push it anymore untill i know that 28-30 ' C load for motherboard is ok.

Well, I'm sorry to say this to you, but it seems your mobo doesn't like OCing that much. From what I've found on the web it seems there were quite a lot of people who have a real hard time getting over 210 HTT (!) like you. This is preety unfortunate.
If you can still return it I'd give you an advice, try the DFI Infinity Ultra M2. It is based on nF4 ultra, but this board can really OC, over 430 HTT!
I would try some more windows OCing, as I have also an ASUS board that totaly sucks at BIOS OCing, but it OCs just fine using nTune2005.
