6850 or wait?

Thread Starter
I was thinking of saving for a 7850 but I saw a 6850 today for £90 which seems like a great deal. Its the asus direct cu version http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-269-AS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1866 . Its listed as pre-order (confused as to why considering the cards been out for around a year) and that it will be in stock on the 20th. So my question is should I get this or wait for 7850. I know the 7850 will be more powerful but it will probably cost about double the price. So whats peoples thoughts?

the 20th is only 10 days away from the rumored March HD 78x0 release, might as well wait and see.
I think you'll be much happier if you waited.

Yep, the integrated graphics have done for now but I think its time to get something more powerful. I will also be buying a more powerful cpu cooler to overclock with and stop any bottlenecks.

I´d sell that and get A8-3870K and OC it with Corsair A70/Cooler master v6 gt/Corsair h60 and select HD 6850

Rumor: The 7770 is about to launch in the next week (or so) and is expected in some reports to have similar performance to the 6850 with a significant reduction in power usage. I'd wait.

HD 7770 probably performs like HD 6790/6850
post #9 of 14
Wait for the 7850/7770.
Even if you don't want them they should drop the prices on the 6XXX series cards a little.

Just found this http://videocardz.com/30546/amd-radeon-hd-7770-and-7750-final-specification-and-release-date the 7750 is rumoured to have a 55w power draw. Thats less than half of a 6850. Does this mean I could crossfire them on a 430 watt psu? drool.gif
