I can get pics of the sticker and part number on the card as well, if you like. But please, don't attempt to mar a reputable e-store for your oversight.

I went by XFX Model numbers. Everywhere I have seen has only the FX-797A-TNBC. My order clearly states a Black Edition. Not a core edition. My box and packaging states the same.

Even if it is my mistake, which is possible, its still good for me to post this online to prevent others from doing the same.

I was very neutral in my topic, not trying to mar anyone.

XFXForce.com itself only had only one "type" of Black Edition.

As far as I can tell they sent you the correct card in your order you ordered a "7970 OC Black Edition" which is this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-214-XF&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=938 . The DD version is usually branded DD but can often have the same name which is misleading, where the only way to tell the difference is the picture and price. But iv heard bad things about the DD heatsink anyway, something to do with bad cooling on the vrms.

Edit: I would have used xfx website for links but I keep getting "Error" whenever I click on their 7970s.

dont be so sad about it. The DD give you a better GPU temp, but GPU temp isnt a big deal on the reference card. The DD however cooks the PWM chips. My advice is, be happy with what you got and equip a fullcover waterblock.

I look again and I think you're right.
Looks like NCIX should not be calling it the Black Edition, no one else is.
It might be a BE, but it seems NCIX is the only etailer I see using that nomenclature.
Probably for this exact reason..
Seems to me like it's on NCIX to make this right.

Black Edition/FX-797A-TDBC
The cards you have FX-797A-TNBC

The product code maybe wrong, but I can hardly fault NCIX, the box has Black Edition plastered all over it.

Looking into it more, there are three cards:
FX-797A-TNBC <-Mine
FX-797A-TNFC <- Core Edition
FX-797A-TDBC <- Real Black Edition

I believe there is a 7970 black edition, a 7970 DD black edition and a 7970 core edition. The black editions both have 1000Mhz clocks but only the DD has the double disapation heatsink. Cant get the xfx website to work to prove it though angrysmiley.gif

Here's the sticker on my Double-Dissipation Black Edition:
79573442.jpg
The sticker on the card reflects the same information. Mine is TDBC and labelled 'Black DD Radeon'
Also, I believe the Black Edition Core version still has the lifetime warranty (TNBC).

Yeah thats what me and Grunion are seeing. Bunch of cards all over the internet have Black Edition images but are not in fact the same as your TDBC. Newegg and NCIX seem to have correctly split them up though.

XFXForce.com is down at the moment though, and as of February 6th, when I sat with these cards in my checkout cart for half a day of debate, there was only one Black Edition and Core/Basic Edition.

On a pleasant note:
Performance is still very good and keeping me in a phenomenal mood.

Edit:
Main has now been update to help get my revelation out, in case others were about to do the same smile.gif

NCIX is pretty good about exchanges, if you're still interested in the DD edition. Though, I'd stick with the reference design, especially for crossfire. If I waited a week to purchase, I'd have got the reference card (after reading reviews and such).
