Where can I get a new cable for my HD558's?

It came with this:

And I would much rather have the 3.5mm first and have an adapter for when I need the larger plug.

Cut the cord to the length you want (add 15cm to what you think) and then solder it on (following an online guide, of course - http://www.wikihow.com/Solder-Stereo-Mini-Plugs). Failing that, my local computer shop soldered the same plug onto my MDR-v6's for just £5. and they did a fantastic job, too!
