Motherboard Fire

Thread Starter
Hey guys, had my pc running for about 30mins before it crashed and I smelled smoke, after instantly turning it off and taking it apart to inspect the damage this is what I've found (pic attached)

448

I've just moved my pc to a family members to dog sit while they are away, the only thing I can think off that's changed is it was plugged into an extension lead. I always had it into the wall along with a surge protector.

I assume the motherboard is dead beyond repair, but having no other systems to try out the rest of the hardware I'm wondering if in this situaction (which looks like a serge, the system has been stable for many months) you would expect the other components damaged or to be fine. All the components in the system are in sig.

I thought first of some Msi AMD based motherboard, or a gigabyte x79 motherboard (it was a user error + bad bios), but Asus?! And the TUF series?

In al seriousness it happens.

Don't even try to turn that back on. Rma the board or buy a new one. Sucks that it happened.

I doubt it. If that were the case then this would be a far more common occurrence.

RMA the board.

I tried to start it up with my finger in the plug, power runs but don't get a boot signal and the motherboards indicates CPU error with its red light featur, so power not getting to the CPU or the CPU is toast?

Am I right in saying that the system cannot/won't test the other components without first starting the CPU?

Off to bed now anyway will check back in the morning, thanks for the advice so far.
