Cheap Cooling? - Page 3

I think those three pin motherboard connections supply 5V only (not 100% sure though). The four pin ones supply 12V also (hence the yellow cable if the fan is four-pin). When connecting to molex, you also get 12V, thus running the fan at full speed, as opposed to running it at less than half speed (5V).

That's my take on this situation.

what? ... stick some ddr500 in there and then run it at 1:1 and crank that FSB up! .. the only reason they say ddr400 is that is the standard for memory .. you can run higher rated ddr in that motherboard as with just about any motherboard.

simply, get some AS5, a VF900 and a 2GB DDR500 ram kit, if you get all those, your pc will be so much faster

the ram is the limiting factor at the moment on your pc

It's what we do. Trying to get the very best performance we can out of our systems.

well, in typical "i have my own ideas and now more than you so there" fashion, i cant

I have some AS5 (woo!)
I am thinking of buying a VF7000 (cheaper)
Want some DDR500, too much though, so am looking at some OCZ DDR400, ie 1 Gb now, 2 Gb later
I was thinking of getting a Vantec tornado to go on top of they Hyper (CPU power is more important than gpu power to me - my pc does audio encoding etc and in my most used game (LFS - driving game, very realistic, physics engine, deformable tyres etc) CPU power determines minimum framerate

Should i? i would be getting them in this order:
Ram
Fan
VF700

Or should i just say sod it and get an Opty?
