My two choices are right now a

ASrock for $88

or a Gigabte for $88

However the gigabyte board is on sale with 10%off and a $20 dollar MIR so now it is $88. I can wait a couple months for a mother board. Should I pass this up and hope for the asrock to go down in price? The only reason I'm considering this board (gigabyte) is because of the 2 extra sata 3 ports and the more audio inputs.

1. pros for as rock
better sata connection spots
might become cheaper than 88
Micro atx board

2, pros for gigabyte
more sata 3 connectors
more audio spots
has usb 3.0 headers

3. cons for as rock
will have to buy a pci-e controller for more sata ports if i buy enough hard drives
not 6 audio ports
no usb 3.0 headers

4. cons for gigabyte
sata connection spots
do i really need two pci-e 2.0 slots for a HTPC?

So in essence which one?
Feed back is definitely appreciated.

i would get the GB board while its discounted, mostly you may benifity from USB 3.0, most other specs are similiar but as you said the GB has 2 more SATA connectors. if your using mechanical drives there will be no performance difference between sata 2 and sata 3 as mech drives wont saturate sata 2. SSDs will benifit from sata 3 more so

really for a HTPC/game server/back up or file server the ASrock will do the trick, i vote for GB becuase it offers more features and you can get it for the same price so might as well get it IMO smile.gif

well Ive tried both. first build (sig rig) I used gigabyte. I like it, the bios wasnt very friendly for a first time builder. Built my parents computer and used an asrock. loved it. great bios. and just good quality overall.

IMO yes it is worth it if you need more drives without getting a card thumb.gif
your irght tho about one thing, as you mentioned above ASRock have a nice BIOS and build quality. Stiil you wont need the BIOS much as for what you want it for you dont need to OC so really once its built you probably wont need to enter the BIOS again smile.gif

TBH, i cant really comment on the audio quality from either of the Audio chipsets, sorry.. what i can say if you are not happy with the audio you can always by a decent sound card later on.. thinking.gif
