i am thinking of this motherboard will it be able to take a skt 939 Opertron the 170 opertron, i am thinking of as cheap as i can, and i can get both of these from £150 more or less, which will be really great for me, then i have more money for myself.

possible Future System:

AMD Opteron 170
ABIT UL8 Motherboard*
1GB PNY DDR400*
19" PB CRT
160GB SATA + 80x2 PATA
Thermal Take Soprano [Black] Case
Nvidia 6200 256MB AGP GFX [i know but it will be upgraded]*
Thermaltake Purepower 500W PSU
Coolmaster Aquagate Water Cooling Kit
Terratec DMX6 Soundcard [depending ]
Labtec Wireless Keyboard & Mouse

*will upgrade when more funds arrive.

will add more ram into this machine lets face it, 2GB memory and a dual core CPU going to be nice for the GFX card, that will be upgraded too, but i will go PCI-E if i am going to do so, as better cards faster anyway. all depends if i can get the money to do the extra upgrades but the main system above will possibly happen.

According to Abit's site, it supports Athlon X2s, so I would assume a dual core Opty would work alright, too.

I'm not sure about how the Opty would work out but if you plan to OC, the 165 is probably the way to go as it can hit 3Ghz on air with little or no voltage increase. All and all I like it thought except for the water cooling kit! High End Air Cooling > Low End Water cooling. I would recommend either a Big Typhoon VX or a Tuniq Tower if you can find it. Other than that, your system seems to be great! With the slur of AGP cards coming out these days, you'll have no trouble upgrading in a year or so.

yep, the 165 isnt dual core, the 170 is though thats the only different it is also the same price.

really i just want to know if the 170 is compatible with the Abit UL8 Motherboard...

The 165 IS dual core

And the 165 generally is the better overclocker of the pair.

Do avoid a VIA chip set like the Kt800, no bus locks
Not sure on the ULI as to having a lock or not. Do get a MB that does!
