What's the point...really... rolleyes.gif

Also, I do not see how this is ground-breaking in any way.

Thanks for letting us know the price you paid, otherwise we wouldn't know how rich you are.

I remember one guy buying MBP for this daughter by taking a loan, cause he couldn't afford it otherwise.

I threw up in my mouth.

The whole Apple products line is built around people who don't have a lot of money and want to pretend that they are rich, imho. I personally don't know a single millionaire who owns an Apple product. not that I know a lot of them but still.

I like the idea of having thinner laptops but only to a point. In the 11 or 13 inch form factor of the Air, it makes sense and feels proportioned right, but if the MBP's are that thin AND 15/17", it'll feel weird to have such a large yet thin form factor.

Apple isn't even trying with their MBP 13, there are lots of thinner, lighter 13" laptops with 35W i5's/i7's with as good or better cooling. I'd guess maybe Apple drops thickness by 0.2" and weight by 0.5-1 pounds, and it's an instant hit for everyone who thinks its soooo much more portable.

I unfortunately got caught inbetween, ultimately having to go with a faster i5, but got the i5's gpu.

Oh for the love of...

Its just a thinner version of the same laptop. People. THINNER IS EXPECTED! Thats what happens with technology. If they removed the optical drive and didn't make it thinner, it wouldn't make any logical sense.

- sent from my macbook pro (which I KICK myself daily for purchasing in the first place)

My avatar describes what I want to do to it as it overheats while i'm writing this post.

I could never buy a MacBook, mostly because I prefer to use Linux.

OS X is Linux based actually... Isn't it? I used Linux commands in the Terminal all the time. Or do you mean UI wise? Or the fact that its... well free.

You know what, never mind, scratch that. I like Linux also.

I know I'm going to take a lot of heat for this one, but I feel like it needs to be said. If someone can't figure something like that out, then they probably shouldn't be using a computer. If it was my way, I would only allow people who have a basic understanding of how a machine works use it. I can only imagine how much better of a place the internet would be without all of stupid. Just imagine reddit without all of the cats on the front page.

It's actually unix based.

Like the above person said, it's UNIX-based, or more precisely, BSD-based. Linux is what people call "Unix-like", though don't ask me what the fundamental differences are.

I should've been more specifik, I like Linux Mint. It's pretty much the only distro that I like. I use KDE for the moment, because every other DE is either too lacking of features, too unstable, or unsupported. But the Mint team is developing this new DE, called Cinnamon, that I like the look of. smile.gif
I don't like OS X, I am sorry. It's my least favourite OS of the major 3.

I seriously disagree. It's true, much of the internet is populated by idiots who have no idea what's going on, but computers have done a lot to improve our society, I think, and I don't always think that understanding of the components is necessary. Are you telling me that I'm not allowed to be on the internet just because I have no idea what a "subnet mask" is, or that I have no idea what the significance of my IP number is? I still have good ideas that I'd like to share, and the internet allows me to do that.

My point is that understanding isn't always necessary.

Additionally, some people are under the impression (sometimes understandably so) that certain computer components are under warranty or very delicate, and therefore, probably don't want to go poking around in the hard drive of a $1200 laptop - especially the part that holds all the saved information. Not to mention, these are apple users that we're talking about tongue.gif

Seriously though - I think that one selling point of Apple is a user experience that's very put together; the OS and much of the computer were assembled and created by the company in a certain way to make things easier on the user. I think that the whole point of a brand like Apple is to provide a product where people don't have to worry about compatibility, or doing anything hardware or software wise for themselves - it's completely ready out of the box.
