Good Budget Sound Card

Thread Starter
Ok I'm planning about a 1000 dollar build. I'll be keeping my psu and monitor. I'm sticking with my x1600 until dx10 comes out so i'll need to save some money for that too.

I was wondering how much I should spend on a sound card and which one.

if you're gaming you should really consider the x-fi xtreme music. it's spendy, but a great card and with CMSS 3D you can get very good simulated surround sound with headphones.

if not, then try to get an Audigy 2 series

even a lowly live 24bit will get you better sound quality then onboard

Sound cards are actually one of the few components that will follow you into your next build as well. The X-Fi was a large leap in technology over the other Audigy cards and can be found on sale for $65 or so if you're patient. I think it's your best choice and a great investment since it will last awhile. I can't suggest anything other than the X-Fi for a $1k build.

The XtremeMusic 7.1 seems like a good card if it can be found for 65$, but I can only find it for like around 100$. Do you know where you found it for 65$?

EDIT: Ok I found a Platinum 7.1 which is a step up from the xtrememusic for 80$ so I'm going with that.

I dont know how many there are but I bought one man, so if there are no more I am sorry. The front panel for my Xtrememusic is $80 alone! I could not pass that offer up.

I do to, I bought my xtrememusic new with the rebate to make it $60 on zipzoomfly. But I could care less on refurb stuff, I can still put my creative care plan on it.
