Sigh....

And as per Gigabyte's website, they claim that 500w power supply, with the understanding that people will buy a cheapo junk Raidmax or Diablotek unit. He's got a QUALITY 400w unit, not a crappy junk 400w unit. It'll handle the load just fine.

This is true. You need more connectors.

So you will have to buy a new one.

What about the connectors? The GTX 560 needs 2 6pin connectors, the CX400 only has 1.

Oh here, you want proof????
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2011/01/25/nvidia-geforce-gtx-560-ti-1gb-review/8

That's a 560Ti. But look at the GTX460 (the GTX560 non Ti is the same thing). Under load, the ENTIRE SYSTEM draws 285w FROM THE WALL. That's not including power supply efficiency. In other words, he's looking at 200-250w in the WORST case scenario under a full system (prime + Furmark) load.

His CX400 will work just fine with no issues.

EDIT:
Yes, he will need a molex to 6 pin adapter. Big deal.

Forgot about the molex to 6-pin, sorry.
I'm shocked it uses that much at the wall.. Damn...
I guess it it will work..
According to that chart, you could run a GTX 580...

My god it took you long enough to fight these people with actual numbers to support our claim that his CX400 would be fine tongue.gif

Look peeps, his system will draw less than 400W from the wall, the CX400 can deliver 360W@12V, it's a Seasonic design, and it can easily handle this system.

It's like saying that I need 850w for my system (without crossfire). It's silly honestly. I would honestly feel comfortable running crossfired 7970's with my sig rig, with my Antec TPN650.

There's no reason to go out and blow more money on a power supply, when his existing one will work just fine without issues, as its a quality unit, and more than enough power.

Thread Starter
Thanks for the replies.

I was wondering, saves making a new thread.
Is there a great deal difference in getting a sandybridge cpu over the 2nd gen, say, i5 650.
I dont overclock, just gaming and general use, im looking price/performance for my use.
Also im right in saying that a sandybridge cpu can fit in any LGA 1155 motherboard right?

Is there a great deal difference in getting a sandybridge cpu over the 2nd gen, say, i5 650.

ENORMOUS difference. The i5 650 is a dual core and a crappy, overpriced one at that. The older generation i3/i5/i7 cost about the same as the current generation, and the current ones are better in every single way. It would make no sense to get an older one.

I dont overclock, just gaming and general use, im looking price/performance for my use.
If you're not going to overclock, then do not get an i5-2500K. Get a cheaper i5. The cheapest one should be the i5-2320. It'll do great. If you don't feel like you need a quad core, you could just get an i3-2120.

Also im right in saying that a sandybridge cpu can fit in any LGA 1155 motherboard right?

Yes.

Edit: and since you're not overclocking, you should get a cheaper H61 motherboard. I think that's what you said you were getting in your first post, but just making sure.

Correct. If you want to overclock..you will need a p67 or z68 chipset.Furthermore..if you want to overclock..I'd get a bigger psu.
