Thread Starter
I was hoping someone could suggest a good card in the $150 range as an upgrade to my really crappy/glitch ridden card.

I want to be able to play new games well enough...but I am most interested in starcraft 2, and shogun 2 both of which my current card sucks with.

I am kind of out of the loop hardware wise....so if you could go easy on me...that would be great. I just need some quick suggestions/comparisons.

You can get a 6850, 6870 or 550ti for around that price. Pretty good price/performance cards.

You can easily run starcraft on ultra with the above cards. Shogun is a little harder to run but you should be able to play it on medium with good frames during large scale battles.

I would recommend the Radeon 6870, it's a pretty solid card and should last a lot longer performance wise than a 550 Ti from Nvidia.

Looks like a great card. Sapphire cards are also really good for overclocking with the aftermarket trix software.

thanks for the suggestions. I probably wont be overclocking anything, so i am really just looking for something that is durable and pretty well supported/reliable. the asus card i have has giving me nothing but problems.

I had good luck with a card from XFX previously...but that was yearts ago....are sapphire known for being good quality/ well made?

Yes, Sapphire's good - they're one of, if not the largest manufacturer/distributors of AMD cards smile.gif

Other good options for a 6870 would be ASUS Direct Cu or MSIs Twin Frozr (though the DirectCus can be had for better prices).
What I like about Asus and MSI (Gigabyte too iirc) is that they have serial # based warranties, so if you buy used it doesn't matter, and when you sell you'll get a bit higher resale.

As for XFX...they've sadly gone downhill; ever since they switched over to AMD cards only their custom PCBs have been pretty poor quality and customer service has gone south too apparently.

For whats available now I would just go with the Saphire card you were looking at. That should be pretty bullet proof.thumb.gif
