A 4870 is around the power of my 5770 and I play SC2 on extreme and can fraps with no lag. Unless the "glitchiness" is making a difference.

Also my GTX 260 core 216 which is a small step up will max SC2 so I'd recommend the 6850/6870 or a GTX 460

These were made with my E6400 + GTX 260 and my Q6600 + 5770

with starcraft2 it is definitely a glitching issue. However, shogun2 just makes the card explode.

If you're willing to go used, you can easily pick up a Radeon HD 5870 for that point, or a new 6870.

Both will be great cards for you, with a 5870 being the more powerful choice.

Yeah HIS makes a good card...
I prefer Nvidia over AMD/ATi though...

but the 6870 has been a very good card.

here are my suggestions:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121446
Asus GTX 560

and
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130752

I would buy from a overclockers forum who are knowledgeable of hardware and who have a reputation of being good sellers.

So long as temps are monitored and kept within limit then the clocks doesn't matter. My E6400 runs at 3.2 ghz 24/7 for 5 years (from stock 2.13 ghz) with no ill effects.

At least members here will take care of their pcs and thier airflows are generally MUCH better than a OEM dell/hp which somone might have bought a gpu after their system and it run at 20-30 cel hotter due tot he crappy airflow.
