AMD 4600+ s939 X2

Thread Starter
Anyone used one of these before? I bought a motherboard day or two ago and my plan is a 4600+. (I bought an Asus A8n32-SLI Deluxe). How does the 4600+ do with heat production and overclocking?

I bought a Thermaltake Big Typhoon for the rig to!

Typhoon should cure any ill-fated temp problems...
The X2 series isn't know for high temps as the max voltage core is lower.

If you are considering the 4600+ you might just as well get the 3800+ as they will attain about the same max frequency when overclocked. If you can get your hands on a 4400+ that has 2x1MB of L2Cache that would be your best bet, and they only cost a few dollars more then the 4600+ in the US.

All of the socket 939 X2 processors are 90nm, and the socket AM2 are just now making the transition to 65nm and I don't know if they are available yet retail. So go for the 3800+ as it has the same L2Cache as the 4600+ or get a 4400+ if you can get your hands on it for the extra L2Cache.

I believe Tigerdirect has them and they deliver to Canada if I am not mistaken, give them a look. Actually the 4400+ is cheaper there is looks. They did not stop the 2x1MB L2Cache they are just reserving it for the top end cpu's like the FX series to encourage the sales on those type of cpu's with the socket AM2's. They are no longer making socket 939 processors, including the X2's, so when the supply is gone it is gone.
